The clay businesses in Metepec are typically maintained within families from generation to generation. Artisans use terracotta clay and plant-based paints to form vibrant suns, floral wreaths, and figurines of mermaids and saints. Some objects are completely hand made while others are made using molds. This quickens the creation process to help artists sell pieces that have a uniform look.
