Event Information

This series of practice meets is designed to expose all of our swimmers to a wide range of events with a base in the USA Swimming IMX and IMR program. Athletes will need to complete five events over the course of the five meets in order to earn either an IMX or an IMR score. Please reference the link to USA Swimming’s website to learn more about IMX and IMR. We have also added an IM Stingray score for our 8 & Under athletes.Four of the “practice meets” will take place during our normal practice times on Saturdays (with slight adjustments for Stingrays and Marlins). These meets are not sanctioned. This means that a swimmer’s time will not be reported to USA Swimming, nor can we use it to enter normal, Sanctioned meets. The Grand Prix Championship on January 8 will be sanctioned, meaning times from those meets will be reported to USA Swimming and can be used to enter future competitions. The only thing we ask of parents is to please declare through our website whether your swimmer will or will not attend practice on these Grand Prix days. This will allow coaches to build a heat sheet prior to that day’s Grand Prix events. The intention right now is for coaches to run these meets, but we will explore volunteer options as we progress.

There will be a running team score across all five meets, meaning the final score of Meet 1 will be the starting score for Meet 2, and so on and so forth. Each athlete will be entered in only 2 Individual Events per meet and 1 Relay. Most relays will be Mixed Gender (2 girls, 2 boys), and only Mixed Gender relays will be allowed to score points. While every athlete will be able to participate on a relay, any relay with more than 2 girls or more than 2 boys will be exhibition (no score).Coaches will select events for at least the first meet. As this series is new we will consider adapting event selection as we move further along. All athletes in the Stingray, Dolphin, Shark, and Marlin groups will participate in these practice meets between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on those meet days. Junior, Senior 1, and Senior swimmers will compete in the events following their Saturday morning practice. Food will be provided for any and all athletes in the early group who choose to stay to support their younger teammates and serve as captains.

Meet Events & Scoring

We have split the meets into two different event schedules with Grand Prix Meets 1 & 3 having the same events and Meets 2 & 4 the same events. All events will be raced MIXED (boys and girls together) but scored as separate genders. We will score the following age groups: 8 & Under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15 & Over.

All athletes have the opportunity to earn bonus points for competing in either all of the IM Stingray events (8 & Unders Only), IMR Events, or IMX Events. That means athletes have 10 individual racing opportunities (4 practice meets + 1 Sanctioned meet with 2 events per meet, per athlete) to complete the IM Stingray, IMR, or IMX event requirements. Athletes who achieve this will earn BONUS POINTS for their team:

  • IM Stingray (8 & Under Only) Bonus Points - 20
  • IMR Bonus Points - 20
  • IMX Bonus Points - 40
The bonus points for IM Stingray and IMR are the equivalent of winning 1 individual event at a single meet. IMX Bonus Points are the equivalent of winning 2 individual events at a meet.Athletes in the Stingray, Dolphin, Shark, and Marlin groups can also earn bonus points for collecting all seven medallions in their group’s Core Skills challenge. Athletes who earn all seven medallions will earn an additional 20 bonus points for their team!
