Today's Objective: Students will examine the benefits of connections among cultures as well as how sin creates problems. Examples: developing opportunities for trade, cooperating in seeking solutions to mutual problems, outsourcing, learning from technological advances, acquiring new perspectives, and benefiting from development in architecture, music, and the arts. Students will explore virtual field trips for experience and begin working on their own project.

Perspective
People emigrate (leave) and immigrate (move into) regions for various reasons. Throughout this year, we will be discussing both positive and negative factors that lead to this movement. You will also be working on a project about your heritage and culture to present to the class that talks about your family's history, culture, and factors. This is a great moment to share your testimony, too!
Nearly every holiday, celebration, food, music, sport and hobby that you enjoy derived from a culture!
Negative
Have you paid attention to the culture around you?
Positive
Globally, while studying human geography, cultures clash. One major example is in scripture when Abraham's sons split. His son Ishmael chose Islam, and his son Isaac chose Judaism. We see God find favor with Isaac who fathered Jacob and later became known as Israel (leading to God's people, the Israelites).
Globally, cultures have the opportunity to embrace new cultures, ideas, and spread the gospel. We live in the melting pot and have so many cultures surrounding us, daily. Which cultures have impacted you in a positive way? Which cultures do you embrace and want to know more about this year?
Why does understanding the past culture matter now? Despite the fact that this split happened over 4,000 years ago, it has lead to modern problems.

What is Culture?
The beliefs, religion, values, art, customs, food, etc., of a group or society.
The acts or process of spreading out in all directions (the US is considered a Melting Pot because it has a combination of all cultures mixed).
The act of moving into a location. Consider pull factors that make someone want to go to a location.
The act of a person leaving a place. Consider push factors that make someone leave an area.
The idea that you believe your culture is better than all other cultures.
Cultures, ideas, and beliefs spreading worldwide (consider how technology has increased this).
A common system of oral or written communication shared by the people of a certain area or group.
