How to get?
By: Pedro Duarte
Getting to the Danakil desert is not an easy task. Starting from the north of Ethiopia, you must cross uninhabited areas, dry rivers, mountainous landscapes and sparse vegetation. But, in addition, the region is extremely risky.
To visit the Danakil desert, you must do it on a 4x4 excursion with one of the local agencies in the area. It can be visited in 2 days from Mekele, but the most common is to do it in 3 days to also be able to make the ascent to the majestic Erta Ale volcano.
Because it is extreme

It is the extraction of salt that is still cut by hand into tiles and loaded onto camels for transport, and it is still common to see camel caravans making the slow journey through the desert. It presents a varied flora and fauna, including the Somali wild asses, an endangered species.
