It's Tom's aunt. She lives with him. Aunt Polly is religious and a very good person. Even though she argues with Tom a lot, she loves him so much and she cares for his well-being.

SETTING
The book tells the stories that take place in "Saint Petersburg", a fictional city near the Mississippi River. That city is inspired by "Hannibal", where the author grew up. The Mississippi is a long river in the central United States that flows south through ten states - Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri (where the city of Hannibal is located), Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana- all the way to the Gulf of Mexico (Atlantic Ocean), near New Orleans. It´s the fourth longest in the world, after the Amazon, Nile and Yangtze rivers.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, was an American writer and comedian. He wrote very successful and famous novels such as "The Prince and the Pauper", but is best known for his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Twain grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, a city that he would use later as inspiration for the setting for the adventures of Tom Sawyer. A very curious fact about the author of this novel is that he was born during one of Halley's Comet visits to Earth and he predicted that he would also go with it. Interestingly, he died on the comet's next return to Earth, 74 years later.

PERSONAL OPINION
It´s a very funny book. It has been very entertaining for me to read all the adventures that Tom and his friends live. You can also see the differences between the past and nowadays, for example the things that were done before. It has been very curious to me. The story was familiar to me when I began to read, until I realized that The Simpsons had done an episode in honor of this great book.
