Climate Change :Food choices, Agriculture and Ecosystems
How can we teach it?
Soil, alimentation and agriculture
What is climate change?
What is climate change?
Proofs, greenhouse effect, projections
Let's test our knowledge
OBVIOUS PROOFS
1896: ARRHENUS
What is behind this? The greenhouse effect
Can you think of a way to explain it with yout students?
Greenhouse effect: how does it work?
Where do the gases come from?
What is our individual footprint?
Lower emissionscenario
Higher emissionscenario
IPCC Scenarios
And in the future?
Let's test our knowledge
Land, alimentation and agriculture
How human activites impact land
So much biodiversity!
Different layers
Different soils for different ecosystems
The soil is not dead!
Life and death of a plant
Activity
Watering?
Land, soil &terrariums
Biodiversity
What is the impact of our alimentation on the climate?
soil / fertilizers
waste
cosommation
Commercialisation
transport and storage
Processing
Production
Steps ofthe foodcycle
Carbon footprint of the food cycle (France)
industry
consommation
distribution
transport of consumers
transport of goods
agriculture
Impacts of modern agriculture on biodiversity
Impacts of modern agriculture on biodiversity
Monoculture provides less food for pollinators and intensifies soil deterioration.
Flowers are no longer pollinated by bees, so for example trees produce less fruit
Pesticides kill pollinators. Predators of bumblebees or honeybees, in turn, are also killed.
But agriculture is directly concerned by climate change
How can we teach climate change in diferent ways?
Resources and support from the OCE, projects
... to come:Land Use and Climate Change
Online animation
Summaries for teachers
lesson plan
