What's Kindness?

All the partners introduced themselves, their school and their town in a Padlet

All partners were asked to write in Answergarden the first word that came to their mind when they thought about the characteristics of a kind person. We got this word cloud.

We took part to Europe Codeweek 2020 with this common coding activity: Mrs Anna (Italy), Mrs Nilgun (Turkey) and Mrs Loredana (Romania) created a collaborative game by Scratch and invited pupils to edit the presentation. Each pupil had to combine blocks from different command pallets in order to add a flower with a kind word on its petals.

To create a world of respect, kindness and positive relationships with the others we first need to be kinder to ourselves, we need to learn to be positive. All partners used this common presentation to write down their daily activities, how they feel and their pledge to healthier actions.

KINDNESS AS CARING

The small acts of kindness we perform can create huge amounts of happiness in the lives of others. We watched a video story about the importance of caring and then we all shared our drawings and our analysis of the story in a twinboard and talked about our experience with Caring in a Forum

Let's cooperate in Teams

What we can do to make a more caring world? Pupils organized in transnational teams used the forums to discuss about the caring actions to perform at home, at school, in the neighbourhood and to people in need. Then each partner school selected the action to put into practice

KINDNESS AS GRATITUDE

Teachers Anna, Burak, Derya, Giulia, Ida, Katie Loredana, Maria and Nilgun uploaded activities about the video-story "Please, Please the bees" on this Nearpod lesson. After doing it pupils shared their thoughts in the Forum

We often undervalue, or forget, the importance of gratitude. By this activity we learnt the importance of slowing down and counting our blessings, making a list of the people and of the things around us that we have to be grateful for. We started by watching the videostory Please, Please the Bees"

Each partner added a slice of gratitude to this collaborative spinning wheel, then we all enjoyed spinning it and talking about our experiences

Pupils listened to a video story about inappropriate online behaviour

Each pupil chose an Internet risk and used learning apps, wordwall, quizzlet, quizzes, kahoot to make games about e-safety that were uploaded in this board

pupils checked the interesting materials about the internet risks uploaded by teachers on a common presentation created by Thinglink

2) each partner school selected the best ideas and uploaded them in the template of a common Canva presentation created by Miss Anna and her pupils to get our common Netiquette.

HOW CAN WE MAKE THE INTERNET A KINDER SPACE? Each partner school used this common google doc to share ideas for a kinder online space!

KINDNESS AS RESPECT FOR OUR PLANET

... then pupils played with a quizzlet about the story and used the Forum to share their opinions about environmental problems in the place where they live

We started by watching a wonderful videostory about endangered animals...

SECOND STEP Finally pupils were involved in activities about ecosystems and environmental problems that teachers had uploaded in a common Genially

HOW CAN WE HELP OUR EARTH We don't have a planet B so we tried to realize the problems our Earth is facing.

We organized a poll with their suggestions and the most voted idea was a common vegan recipe book .

THIRD STEP All partners worked in small groups and each group wrote a vegan menu with traditional dishes of their local area. Most of us used Google Classroom for this activity, Others preferred handwritten recipes

THIRD STEP Pupils had a chat with their partners where they discussed about environmental problems, the possible solutions and made suggestions for a common collaborative "green work" to face environmental problems.

FIFTH STEP Each pupil was asked to translate their partners' recipes into their mother tongue. Some of us continued using Classroom,, some asked their pupils to use their copybook.

FOURTH STEP Pupils translated their own menus into English

Click on the Presentation to see it

SIXTH STEP As soon as the partners completed their menus, they uploaded them in our common ebook created by Genially. It consists of 7 chapters (as many chapters as the number of partner schools.). Each partner uploaded the English version of her/ his menu in the English chapter . Then each partner translated the partners' recipes in his/her own mother tongue and uploaded them in the chapter devoted to her/his country.

our multilingual (7 languages) vegan recipe book:

Finally we all shared our paragraph in a common google doc. Each partner tried to add her/his paragraph where it fit well with what the other partners had already written. To see the document, click on this interactive element

Once we got the final text of the letter, each partner uploaded their paragraph in a Canva presentation. Here is the final result.

OUR TENDER LETTER To celebrate our mother Earth's day we decided to write a collaborative kind letter to our planet. Each partner school wrote a paragraph about a particular topic like our concern about environmental problems, our gratitude to our Earth, our pledge to have healthy habits... Some of us wrote their paragraph collaboratively in Google classroom, others preferred handwriting.

KINDNESS ASRESPECTING & APPRECIATING EACH OTHER'S DIFFERENCES

FROM WORST ENEMIES TO BEST FRIENDS We first listened to the videostory "Enemy pie" and then we wrote tweets in the twinboard.

Pupils took part in the collaborative activities that teachers uploaded in Nearpod presentation

Pupils were organized into 5 transnational teams and met in wonder.me.

They met in wonder.me. They introduced themselves, chose the name of their team, made proposals about the final product that they wanted to produce as a team.

The members of Transnational team "One Team, One dream" used the shared google doc of their team in order to write mottos about Discrimination, Friendship, prejudices. They also chose pictures to be published in the collaborative poster.

There was a poll in Twinspace in order to choose the best mottos to upload in the common poster

Click on the Presentation to read the comic book

The members of Transnational team "Flowers of Kindness" wanted to create comic strips about the story of Frankenstein. They all collaborated in the shared google doc: each partner chose a paragraph of Frankenstein's story and turned it into dialogues. Another partner made drawings about their partners' dialogues.

Then an Italian student created the template of the comic book by Bookcreator and invited the members of her team to edit it. Every partner uploaded drawings and dialogues. Here is the final product

key ingredients of our project

Effective communication is the key to working together as a team. We shared the project Netiquette with partners and we informed pupils and families about Data protection, Copyright. and we got the Privacy consent signed by them

Click on the interactive element to read the original plan

Communication was necessary in order to know the progress of the project, to plan future activities, to give information about the roles for a particular task. The starting point was the sharing of the draft of the Project plan with all the partners by a common google doc. Everyone could make suggestions

Throughout the project the original plan was modified in some parts because we took into consideration the feedback of our pupils, the results of our chats, the mid survey, but also the circumstancies imposed by the pandemic. So, the keywords were MONITORING - FLEXIBILITY- COOPERATION

Chats, forums and online meetings with pupils were used to know each other, to share opinions, to discuss, to make decisions

The HOME of the Twinspace was used to share information with pupils

T.B was used to remind dates or to ask for information

emails were used to sum up what we had said during the videoconferences and to give more detailed information

online meetings were used to discuss about the project plan, activities, and distribution of the tasks

messenger group was created and used for faster information

Communication was frequent. We used many channels!

SURVEY FOR FAMILIES

SURVEY FOR TEACHERS

SURVEY FOR PUPILS

And for the project final evaluation we considered continuity of participation, completion of products, and the final surveys for pupils, teachers and families

Click on the Presentation to read the results of the midway survey

  • Do I listen to my pupils' opinions ?
  • How much are they involved in this type of activity?
  • Are my pupils having difficulties
  • to do this task?
  • Are pupils interacting with their peers?
  • Are they collaborating with their team?
  • Is each of them contributing to the final product?
  • Are they respecting deadline?

We also considered the results of the mid survey

Monitoring had an important role because it allowed us to make adjustments in our teaching methods and strategies but also in the planning of future activities. Moreover it gave us the chance to provide feedback to pupils.A component of monitoring was the systematic observation of pupils at work and play, how they interacted with teachers and with peers,, their involvement in the project activities.
