CLIMATE CHANGE!

By: Ion Costin Darius Liga Luis Rares Pupe Georgiana Denisa

Caused by global warming, climate change refers to long-term weather patterns (temperature, sea levels, precipitation, etc.). The Earth's climate has changed dramatically several times since the formation of the planet, 4.5 billion years ago. It oscillated between warm periods and ice ages, in cycles that always lasted tens of thousands or millions of years. In the last 150 years (industrial era), temperatures have risen faster than in any other period.

What is climate change?

Burning fossil fuels

The main cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas, etc.), which release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Change is also accelerated by other human activities, such as agriculture and deforestation. The problem with these gases is that they capture heat in the atmosphere, producing the so-called greenhouse effect.

Causes of climate change

  • Burning fossil fuels
  • Global warming
  • Deforestation
  • Pollution

Climate change is affecting all regions of the world. The ice caps are melting and sea and ocean levels are rising. In some regions, extreme weather events and rainfall are becoming more common, while others are facing extreme heat waves and drought.

Global warming

The world's largest forests are in grave danger. Half of the original forest area has been destroyed and things are about to get worse if the current rate of deforestation is not slowed down. Every minute 26 hectares of forest are lost - and it's not hard to see that if we continue we will have a forestless planet. This would be catastrophic not only because many animal species have their habitat in the forest but also because forests play an important role in regulating the planet's climate.

Deforestation

Pollution is the contamination of the environment with materials that interfere with human health, quality of life or the natural function of ecosystems (living organisms and the environment in which they live).

Although sometimes environmental pollution is a result of natural causes, such as volcanic eruptions, most of the pollutants come from human activities.

Pollution

  • Recycle
  • Reusing things
  • Planting trees
  • Decrease in deforestation
  • Reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere
