Reawakening The Values

This project aims at detecting and unearthing the intrinsic values students have by doing literary work. The students will rediscover their in-built feelings like empathy, love, respect, tolerance, patience, mercy, trust, responsibility, cooperation, success, self-respect and self-esteem via books through innovative teaching methods. They will read books from different cultures and do cross-cultural activities.

READING EXPERIMENT

1.Step: A challange has been laid down for the students. 2.Step: They have been asked to choose a book by 1st March 2021.3.Step: There is an experiment data chart. They have been asked to print it out and take notes on it.4.Step: They have been asked to create and design an attractive and useful book mark for this experiment. 5.Step: After 20th March, students will send the charts to their teachers.

A video about how to build a reading habit has been watched.

Later, new mixed international groups have started to write the tips they have in their minds on that book page. When their time is over, they turned back to the general zoom meeting and read their tips together.

We watched this video at the webinar " Building a reading habit" in February.

"A book is a gift you can open again and again" 'Dreams coming true is not the only purpose of a dream, its most important purpose is to get us in touch with where dreams come from'

Firstly, two famous quotations on reading have been displayed on the screen for all project participants. The students have been asked what they have understood from those quotations and they have been divided into mixed international groups and they have been asked to discuss, write, and illustrate them on a book page. The link has been given on the zoom chat part. Then, Ms. Irena Urboniene has set the zoom groups. She had asked the students' names who were going to participate in this activity the day before the meeting took place and she had already predetermined the mixed international groups before all the students met.

Our works in February

Zoom chat rooms are designed for each group. When each group comes together in the zoom chat room, they start to discuss what those two quotations mean at first. Then they click the link and begin to write their ideas on the book page which is assigned to their group. They write their group members' names on the same page, too. Each group has 10 minutes to complete the task. Then, everybody has left their zoom chat rooms and come back again. The book pages are now full of their ideas and illustrations. Finally, all the pages have been read by the group presenters or leaders, and comments about them have been made.

OUR WORK IN APRIL

  • Celebrating 23 April World Book and Copyright Day
  • Evaluating reading experiment charts
  • Creating a mind map based on the experience after their reading experiment
  • Writing an acrostic poem

This is the message from Ms Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day 23 April 2021.

23 APRIL WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY

"In this period of uncertainty, many people are turning to books to help them escape lockdown and cope with anxiety. Indeed, books have the unique ability both to entertain and to teach. They are a means of exploring realms beyond our personal experience through exposure to different authors, ideas and cultures. They are a means of accessing the deepest places in our minds. Page by page, books light a path for us to roam, unbound by time or borders. In other words, books give us freedom." This message has been emphasized.
