WE WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO TAKE PART IN THE ARTISTIC -VIRTUAL CITY GAME

Each player / team must provide their NICK while performing the tasks. The nick will be given after registering at www.folkoweinspiracje.pl
There will be points visible next to each nick (the points are also taken into account in the overall ranking: FOLKMAN, FOLKWOMAN, FOLKGROUP).
All answers or multimedia materials submitted by the player must contain the participant’s nick. It must be the same as the one given in the registrator.
For each task, the player / team gets points, from 1 to 10, awarded by experts in various fields.
Photos, videos and other multimedia material must be available on the padlet immediately after the end of the game.
They will be available for other participants and organizers, and may also be published on the website of MFTM FOLK INSPIRATIONS and on the festival Facebook.

The main theme of the game is related to the historical areas in Łódź. Knowledge about them combined with tasks inspired by folklore from around the world will give you fun and points in the ranking for the following titles: FOLKMAN, FOLKWOMAN, FOLKGROUP.

Individuals as well as groups can participate in the on-line game (which can be an inspiration to get to know Łódź with family, friends, class or team)

The game can be played on: 15.05.2021 – 01.08.2021, after 1st August, the ranking will be closed.
The final results and the winner of the game and the winner of the overall ranking: FOLKMAN, FOLKWOMAN and FOLKGROUP will be announced during the edition of the FOLK INSPIRATIONS festival on a regular basis, which will be held on 25-28.08.2021 in Łódź.

When performing tasks, players use their perceptiveness and creativity as well as the ability to use various sources of knowledge.
There are tasks at the points marked on the maps. If the task is done, it must be confirmed by sending the appropriate materials.
Each point has a separate number and address (which can be found on maps on the Internet).

RULES OF ARTISTIC-VIRTUAL CITY GAME:

Łódź became the "Promised Land" for countless workers, craftsmen, but also people who wanted to make a fortune here.In this multinational, nineteenth-century city, we would find neighbours from: Germany, the Czech Republic, Russia, but also Scandinavians, Englishmen, Frenchmen, and of course Jews. All these groups, together with the Poles, formed the industrial power of Łódź!Piotrkowska, on the other hand, became a street where it was obligatory to have your own workshop or factory, and as one became richer and richer -a villa, a palace or tenement houses with apartments for rent.

Piotrkowska Street is one of the most important streets in Łódź. It was the axis of development of one of the most dynamically developing industrial centers in Europe at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Łódź changed from a wooden farming town into the village of weavers and then into the city of factories and chimneys. In less than 100 years, the number of its inhabitants increased over 600 times!

Lodz is the city where over 120 years ago appeared modern electric trams.It happened thanks to the intercultural cooperation of entrepreneurs- factory owners investing in the development of the city.The tram became one of the symbols of the city, uniting different places, different cultures and different traditions.

Hello, my name is Markus Silberstein.I used to be one of the richest factory owners of Jewish origin in Łódź.We are close to my wool factory- an impressive building situated in the most important street in the city.My interests, apart from those related to the textile industry, were culture and art.I was also a co-founder of a consortium of Łódź industrialists, which signed an agreement with the City,for building tram lines in Łódź in 1987.We, the factory owners, really wanted to modernise the city, we put a lot of work and funds into it.

The building of the weaving mill looks like a Gothic defensive structure.It is 60 m long and has two towers at the corners. It isone of the most interesting examples of 19th-century industrial architecture in Łódź.Find the answer to the following question by looking at the object or by means of internet maps and photos:

Nowadays, there is DOM THEATRE here with many cultural events going on.The participants of the FOLK INSPIRATIONS festival have performed on its stage many times, presenting their talents in folk way.

Over the next years (starting from the beginning of the 20th century) there were: a cinematograph, theatre, youth centre etc.A few years later, the cinema appeared here (for 14 years it had been replaced by Philharmonic)

In the 1830s, a house was built here. It belonged to a German weaver.There was also the Evangelical school and the German Singing Society here.

We are next to the building that was important not only for the city, but also for music and the International Festival of Youth Creativity FOLK INSPIRATIONS.From the very beginning, this place was full of artistic events and multicultural atmosphere.

After the liberation of the country, the post-factory garden was transformed into a city park open to everyone.At present, we can see more than 20 natural monuments, a magnificent oak named: FABRYKANT, as well as two magnificent villas of former entrepreneurs and landowners from the Czech Republic.The biggest attraction, however, are blue, flowery carpets that cover a large part of the park area.You can admire them when the blue Siberian squills are blooming.

If we had been in the park at the beginning of the 20th century, we would have seen two mansions of industrialists from Łódź surrounded by a magnificent garden.We are talking about the brothers: Reinhold and Józef Richter, whose ancestors came to Łódź from the Czech Republic to set up their weaving workshops here.

Hello!My name is Fryderyk Wilhelm Schweikert. I was born near Łódź, but my father was from Germany.Going south through the park, you will see a three-storey red brick building that is over 150 meters long.This is my woolen mill. The shape of the plot on which it is located makes the building narrow and long. It resembles a tram, that is why many Łódź residents call it this way.You might find interesting that in this multicultural city, the textile factories belonging to the Frenchmen (Desurmont and Motte) were adjacent to my building.

Archcathedral Basilica of St. Stanisław Kostka is not only the highest Catholic church in Łódź, but also a great example of the effects of multicultural cooperation.The temple was built at the beginning of the 20th century, in the neo-Gothic style, on the former market square and near the first hospital for the city's inhabitants. The magnificent and slender shape of the building resembles the Notre Dame Cathedral in Chartes.Among the people who managed and financed the construction of the most important church in the city we can find not only ordinary residents, but also famous Łódź manufacturers: Catholics, Protestants, and Jews.The impressive interior of the building hides wonderful, carved, neo-Gothic altars in the Art-Deco style and much more...There is the house and the palace of the biggest factory owner in Łódź - Karol Scheibler next to this church.

IN 2011 A BELL WAS BUILT ON THE 104-METER TOWER OF THE CATHEDRAL. IT COMMEMORATED THE PREVIOUS BELL CALLED ZYGMUNT, STOLEN DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR.THE CONSECRATION OF THE NEW BELL TOOK PLACE IN THE PRESENCE OF 16 IMPORTANT PEOPLE FROM THE RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY:• 4 CATHOLICS,• 4 LUTERANS,• 4 ORTHODOX• 4 JEWS.

I am Ludwik Geyer and I came from Saxony as a textile printer with all my belongings.I took a risk!With time, I became a pioneer in textile production in Łódź. I started with a modest house and workshop, but I was rapidly expanding my property, occupying a large part in the city. I also invested in many other industries.Unfortunately, as the well-known proverb says: "Fortune is fickle".By investing money in not very profitable ventures, I went bankrupt, and my descendants worked for many years to get the company out of the huge crisis.My family, although of German origin, quickly settled in Łódź and was recognized as Polish patriots.The grandsons were against the harm made to their Polish neighbours (at the beginning of World War II).One of them even died, as we can learn from the memorial board on my WHITE FACTORY.

My monumental WHITE FACTORY was established in the 1830s and it was the first real factory in Łódź.The first working steam engine in the city was here. It was also here that the first factory chimney in Łódź was built.Currently, there is Central Museum of Textiles in my factory (closely related to the history of this city). You can see not only historical interiors and machines, but also over a thousand fabrics: historic, contemporary and folk. Outdoor events and concerts are also organized in the courtyard. At the back of the building, we will also see weavers' houses and wooden villas, protected from destruction and oblivion, related to the development of the industrial fortunes of Łódź. During workshops and exhibitions we will learn about the life of ordinary people in this unusual, multicultural and rapidly changing industrial city.And here is the final, creative task for you,at the end of our festival tram tour
