Taxes

💰Money paid to the government to fund the common defense and general welfare of the US.

Four Kinds of Taxes

1. Income 2. Payroll 3. Property 4. Sales

👔Income: Tax on money you earn from a job

✉ Payroll: Taxes an employer pays from an employee's paycheck

🏡Property: Tax on the value of a home, building, or land

🛒Sales: Tax on something you buy at a store

$Congress has the power to establish and collect taxes

$Tax money goes to the local, state, and federal government

Taxes pay for:

Common defense: Military and technology to keep the US safe 🎖🏛

General Welfare: Police, roads, schools, parks, firefighters, and more!

Income

Gross Income: your TOTAL income before any taxes are taken out

Net Income: the money you get in your check after taxes are taken out

In other words:

"Gross is greater, Net is less" "Net is what you get"


Budgets

A budget is a plan for how to use your money.

🎯Goal: Income and Expenses must be EQUAL

Adding and Subtracting Mixed Numbers

1. Change the mixed numbers into improper fractions: make them MAD: x + same denominator

2. Change to equivalent fractions using the LCD

3. Add or Subtract the numerators, keep same denominator

4. Simplify if needed: Improper fractions need to be divided (numerator ➗ denominator)dn

5. Estimate to check your answer!
