Acid rain

Andrew G. and Jacob M.

Acid rain is a broad term that includes any form of precipitation with acidic components, such as sulfuric or nitric acid that fall to the ground from the atmosphere in wet or dry forms. This can include rain, snow, fog, hail or even dust that is acidic.

What is it?

Our topic relates to acid/bases because normal rain has a pH of 5.0 to 5.5, while acid rain has a pH of 4.0 to 4.4.

Acid rain is caused by a chemical reaction that begins when sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. These substances can rise very high into the atmosphere, where they mix and react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form more acidic pollutants, known as acid rain.

Acid rain is formed when two chemicals which is formed from pollution, go into condesation, and mid with water to create acid rain.

How this relates to acid/bases

This is what happenes after Acid Rain in a forest, it strips all of the trees of their leaves, and is not healthy for the environment.

Paragraph and Problem

https://www.epa.gov/acidrain/what-acid-rain

This problem shows that Sulfur dioxide is mixed with oxygen to form Sulfur trioxide, which is then mixed with water to creat Sulphuric acid, or acid rain.
