It refers to a person who has a perfect moral behavior. He is a "mature person" or "Gentleman". Formerly it was assumed that only men could become chun-tzu. According to Confucius, becoming a chun-tzu depends on constant learning.
Chun-Tzu
A basic principle of Confucian ethics that says not to do to others what you would not want them to do to you. Repay hatred with uprightness and repay virtue with virtue. For Christians this is the Golden Rule.
To learn how to be human, you have to acquire some skills of behavior. These skills are the cultural arts and they are categorized as wen. Mainly, they are the arts of music and poetry. Wen also includes archery, charioteering, calligraphy and mathematics. Cultural arts are very important to ensure continuity and unity in society. Participating in the skills and arts that make up wen means that you acquire a moral education.
Goodness”, “love”, or “benevolence” The supreme human virtue, doing one’s best to treat others as one was to be treated. Doing one’s best and reciprocity.
Te means “virtue as shown through the power of example”. In order for a government to be good, it has to go through the cultivation of Te. It’s the product of a life of learning and of the education of society through example. Confucius said that Te is a tool of leadership more effective than laws and punishments. This is because Te’s effects of nurturing moral conscience have long term effects. On the other hand, laws and punishments can restrict bad behavior, but they have a short term effect.
Chinese term referring to the proper behavior that must people have at specific times. For example, the appropriate behavior when carrying out a sacred ritual.
