Similarity: In both stories there are types of God-like figures. In 1984 it is "Big brother", and it is Christof in The Truman Show.

Similarity: In both stories, the main characters are being watched at all times. Truman is on television, and Winston is seen through telescreens.

The main characters are both confined to a small area of the world and aren't allowed to leave. Truman: Seahaven Island. Winston: Oceania.

There are people in each story trying to keep the main characters in a state of belief. Truman: hired workers. 1984: Thought Police.

Both characters in these stories lost a parent and felt at fault for it.

In the end of 1984, Winston says he loved Big Brother, but Truman hated Christof by the end of his movie.

Truman is always protected and he isn't supposed to die, but Winston is always threatened and could easily die by the Thought Police.

Truman is allowed to have relationships, but the Thought Police don't want Winston to have any.

Truman is being watched for other people's enjoyment, but Winston is being watched to make sure he follows the rules.

Truman does not know that he is always being watched by cameras, but Winston does know.
