- In his research on the cognitive development of children (1966), Jerome Bruner proposed three modes of representation:
- Enactive representation (action-based)
- Iconic representation (image-based)
- Symblic representation (language-based)
- The concept of discovery learning implies that students construct their own knowledge for themselves
- language is acquired as the result of interactions that help the infant develop
- language language learning happens due to the process of socialization; hence the child is learning to be part of the community
- interactions provide the infant with language acquisition support structures
- The aim of education should be to create autonomous learners (i.e., learning to learn).
