How do words change according to where they come from ?

Geographical Area

So, we deduce that the meaning of words can depend of where they are used.

The major part of the country uses "sac" to say "bag" but we can also see "poche" in the south west for example.

For example in France...

Biographie

Here, we can see different words which mean the same thing but are said differently in different areas.

How do different brands have an influence on the meaning of words ?

BRANDS

We can deduce that brands influence our way of speaking

We also say "Can I have a Kleenex ?" but not always "Can I have a tissue ?"

Sometimes, when we get something to eat we say that we "eat the brand" like "I eat MacDonald's today!!" or "je mange Mcdo aujourd'hui"

In what way does the news create new words ?

WORLD NEWS

In France a transexual man created the word "enceint" for the men which at the base was just for the women as "enceinte". It's mean pregnant.

Invented words are the result of new actions and technical progress in the world.

New words used in the everyday language like "covid," "contact case" or "collective immunity" will be added in the dictionnary.

Why do words take the name of some people?

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Charles Cunningham BOYCOTT was a land owner who was treating badly the people who worked for him so they decided to refuse completely to work for him and this is how the expression "boycott" was born!

To conclude, sometimes words take the name of famous people to pay a tribute to their discoveries

Eugène Poubelle is the inventor of the bin in France and to pay respects to his big invention, his name was given to the "bins" in France.

He created a big invention in the entire physics history . And so, the unit of measure took his name in his honor : "Watt"
