Natinalist Revolution

Spurred by discontent and Enlightment ideas, peoples in Latin America fought colonial rule.

Latin America People Win Independence

• At top of spanish american society were the peninsulares.
• Creoles spaniards born in Latin America were below the peninsulares in rank.
• And mulatos which was a mixed European and african ancestry, and enslaved Africans.

Colonial Society Divided

Formerly enslaved Toussaint was unfamiliar with military and diplomatic matter.

In August 1791,100,000enslaved Africans rose in revolt.

Many young creoles traveled to Europe for their education.

Creoles were the least opressed of those born in Latin America

In most Latin American countries, creoles led the revolutionary movements. In Mexico, Indians and mestizos played the leading role and ethnic groups mixed more freely.
