MARK TWAIN

He was born on November 30, 1835 in Florida (United States). His was writer, humorist and a lecturer.His real name is Samuel Langhorne Clemens, he wrote highly successful works such as The Prince and the Pauper or A Yankee in the Court of King Arthur. William Faulkner called Twain «the father of American literature».

CHARACTERS

Aunt Polly

Is the protagonist of the novel. Tom is a naughty and adventurous boy. He has an active imagination, and he gets a lot into trouble. He's an innate and very stubborn leader.

Tom Sawyer

Is Tom's bestfriend and he is one of the protagonists of the novel.

She is Tom's aunt, is religious and very correct, but with a good heart. Although she fights a lot with Tom, she loves him very much

Injun Joe

Huckleberry Finn

She's Mr. Thatcher's daughter, Tom falls in love with her the first time he sees her.

The villain of the novel. He is a mestizo and an evil and hateful criminal, who steals and murders without reflecting.

He's a wild boy and doesn't go to school. He doesn't obey any rulers and is not as imaginative as Tom

This novel is about an imaginative child (Tom Sawyer), who lives with his brother Sid and aunt Polly in St. Petesburg, on the banks of the Mississippi River (Missouri).One night, Tom and his friend Huck went to the cemetery and there they saw Injun Joe, Muff Potter and Doctor Robinson, who were grave robbers. There the three began to fight, and Doctor Robinson was killed by Injun Joe with Muff’s knife, the Injun Joe blmes Muff. Then Huck and Tom, afraid of what they had witnessed, flee the cemetery and swear not to say anything. But when Muff was arrested, Tom decided to tell the truth.Later Tom and Huck decide to go to Jackson Island, to become pirates. Their family believes they are dead and decide to hold a funeral, but in the end they return. Finally,Tom and Becky (from the girl who was in love) go on a picnic to a cave. There they get lost and can’t get out but in the end they find their way out. There Tom hears Injun Joe’s voice and tells Mr. Thatcher decides to close the cave with Injun Joe inside. Later Tom and Huck return to the cave and meet Injun Jone’s cadaver and take his box of gold.

STORYLINE

This novel is extraordinary, since the environment in which history develops makes the reader not bored. I was also delighted that the author had introduced several topics into history. I recommend reading this novel, both children and adults, because it will seem very interesting to them.
