We are definitely ready for the warmer weather as we have had a taste of 22+ early in April!! Hopefully students will be able to put away their winter coats and get outside and enjoy some sunshine. A sincere thanks to all the families and caregivers that are helping our Timberwolves learn remotely for the time being. Please call the school at 519-885-1115 if you need anything! Take care, V. Hey Timberwolves! This is our Showcase Mural that reflects many of the languages represented at Northlake Woods! As they say in Equity Walks... the framing of messaging demonstrates the value it holds. In our case, we feel that building and framing our commitment to equity and inclusion is paramount in helping all Timberwolves feel connected to Northlake Woods and each other! Many times we have heard students rejoice when seeing a language they know, read and feel connected to!

Hey Timberwolves! Here are some of the smiling faces on display in our front hall!

Hey Timberwolves! Here is some artwork from 4/5A! In Room 21, our hand art was inspired by the “Dream” mural in Auburn, Alabama that celebrates diversity. Our mural celebrates multiculturalism at NLW!

This artwork was created by Room 7 students for Black History Month and was inspired by the art of Alma Woodsey Thomas.

Hey Timberwolves! Here is some artwork from 3/4B! The artists in Room 12 were inspired by the art of William H. Johnson.

After our Black History Month unit, our class decided to show friendships by drawing two different coloured hands in a heart shaped handshake.

In room 3 we read various books for Black History Month. We were inspired by the book ‘The Colors Of Us’ by Karen Katz. The students were able to identify the colour of their own skin by using the language from within this text. As the students were colouring their self-portraits you could hear them saying “my skin is like … creamy peanut butter, french toast, peachy and tan, honey, reddish brownish.” We discussed how those differences make us beautiful. After reading The Colors of Us, our students got to work creating self-portraits. We encouraged each one of them to recognize the beauty in the colour of their skin and write what they loved about themselves. In seeing each other's work students were able to see that our differences make us unique and beautiful. We continue to help our students every day to appreciate the opportunities and beauty that comes from having a diverse and multicultural community.

Grade 8 students were challenged to use the medium of linoblock printing to create a design that used positive and negative space in an interesting way. They made three prints using various colours of ink. The second challenge was to use three postcards to create a sense of movement using the elements and principles of design. The subject matter was their choice.

Inspired by the work of Aisha Haider, the grade 5 and 6 students in Room 23 created their own artwork to celebrate the different diversities of the human race.

Grade 7's experimented with two-point perspective in designing cities.

This artwork was created by Room 7 students to symbolize Autism Acceptance on World Autism Acceptance Day on April 2. The Rainbow infinity symbol represents the diversity of the autism spectrum, as well as the greater Neurodiversity and Autism Rights Movement.

In Room 8, we are exploring different tools, techniques and canvasses to create a variety of spring masterpieces! We also created the rainbow infinity symbol for Autism Awareness Day on April 2.

In Room K, we have been discussing and celebrating what makes each of us unique and special! The students helped to mark off the countries on our world map that represent their family heritage. Each family kindly provided information about special celebrations, foods, languages, and traditions that play an important role in their family life. The children also created and decorated a child cutout to help frame our bulletin board. They represent their classmates, friends and family members. We have a very interesting and diverse group of learners in Room K!

This artwork was created by room 10 students to celebrate our diversity. By using our multicultural Crayola markers, each student traced their hand and wrote what made them unique. This individual uniqueness has created a classroom of warmth and acceptance which has created a beautiful classroom community.

After reading the Colour of Us, Room 2 created an art project that reflected all the diversity we see at Northlake Woods!
