Spanish civil war
In this image we can see a young Republican marching in a street. The child is carrying a very big gun for him, and he is also wearing a type of jacket where he keeps the munition of the gun. In this moment we can deduce he is in the middle of a Republican march.
Franco joined to the uprising against the Republic that several soldiers had planned in July 1936. In the capital, the coup was unsuccessful, and this led to the Spanish Civil War, pitting Republicans and rebels in an armed conflict that lasted two years and eight months. During the war, Franco used conservative strategist of war, different of the rest of Europe. On March 28, 1939, the Republicans finally surrendered Madrid, bringing the Spanish Civil War to end. Up to a million lives were lost in the conflict.
This is a very shocking photo because we can see a loyal militiaman that is falling to the floor with he’s gun, but if we look attentively, we can see that he has been shoot by a soldier of the other ban in the head, and he instantly died.
In this photo we can appreciate a very big concentration of Republicans in a Madrid square. In the middle of the image there are some Republicans that are higher of the rest, and we can see that they are holding the flag of the Second Spanish Republic.
In this image we can see how different Republican soldiers are playing chess in the middle of the trenches of Madrid. All the soldiers are covered because they can be shoot by the soldiers of Franco’s ban. The clothes that they wear are very dirty thanks to the mud of the trenches.
In this image we can appreciate how woman also contribute to the Republican ban and how they shot. We can see 4 women lying down in the floor, pointing with their guns to somewhere. These women are very young but for the war doesn’t matter the age you were because they only wanted soldiers.
This is a nationalist soldier before a battle. He's aspect is of a rude man, but he may be very afraid of been shot, of not to see his family again. We must think that this man its going to enter in a battle between two bans, and he is going to be shoot by other soldiers. That is a very difficult moment. https://canalhistoria.es/videos/eeg-luis-togores_anecdota/
During the Civil War, my grandparents were alive, and they lived in Navarra. They told me always that they were very afraid, they were young, but they knew perfectly what was happening in that period, because they saw the soldiers in streets. My grandmother told me that when she went to the street, she went to a bakery, and she took the bread of the baker (that was known person for she), and she introduce the bread inside her dress and run to home because she was afraid of what any soldier may do with she if they see the bread.
With this project I have learned few things about the history of my country, of what happened in the Spanish Civil War. I have learned what errors we do not have to repeat in the future. And, it has been relatively easy for link it to my family because my grandparents were alive during the war.
