A drug is any substance that causes a change in an organism's physiology or psychology when consumed. Drugs are typically distinguished from food and substances that provide nutritional support.
PHARMACEUTICAL OR PSYCHOTROPic ?
In pharmacology, a drug is a chemical substance, typically of known structure, which, when administered to a living organism, produces a biological effect. A pharmaceutical drug, also called a medication or medicine, is a chemical substance used to treat, cure, prevent, or diagnose a disease or to promote well-being. Pharmaceutical drugs may be used for a limited duration, or on a regular basis for chronic disorders
PHARMACEUTICAL DRUG
A psychoactive drug or psychotropic drug is a chemical substance that changes nervous system function and results in alterations in perception, mood, consciousness, cognition, or behavior.
Traditionally drugs were obtained through extraction from medicinal plants, but more recently also by organic synthesis.
These substances may be used:
- medically
- recreationally
- to purposefully improve performance or alter one's consciousness
- for research.
Some categories of psychoactive drugs, can have therapeutic value, as medications used to treat neuropsychiatric disorders, such as antidepressants, anxiolytics, antipsychotics, and stimulant medications. Some psychoactive substances may be used in the detoxification and rehabilitation programs for persons dependent on or addicted to other psychoactive drugs
