4. Summary

After that, Tom meets Huckleberry Finn and goes with him to the cemetery at midnight with a dead cat for mischief. There, they observe a murder. Injun Joe killed Dr. Robinson and tried to blame it on the drunken Muff Porter. Injun Joe didn't realise that the boys have seen what he has done and they kept quiet out of fear, although Tom was saddened when Muff went to prison unfairly.

Tom Sawyer is a boy who lives with his Aunt Polly and his half brother Sid on the banks of the Mississippi River. After skipping school one day, Tom is punished with the task of painting a fence. However, he tricks other children into finishing the job for him. Moreover, Tom falls in love with Becky Thatcher but she rejects him.

After another rejection by Becky, Tom, Huck and Joe Harper (Tom's best friend) escaped to Jackson Island. As they had escaped, their relatives thought they had died and organized a funeral for them. At that moment the children reappeared and surprised everyone. After that, overtaken by guilt, Tom testified at Muff Potter's trial and confessed who the real killer was, but Injun Joe managed to escape. At the end, Tom and Becky got lost in a cave, and Tom found Injun Joe there. After escaping and finding the exit, he successfully alerted the townspeople, who closed the cave, leaving Injun Joe inside. Our hero ends up happy after he and Huck found a box of gold (which once belonged to Injun Joe).
