OUTDOOR LEARNING IN ENGLISH Presented by the staff of the English Speaking Playschool of Oulu, a private bi-lingual day care and preschool with more than 20 years of experience teaching English to children aged 3-7 years, Outdoor Learning in English is a training and information session aimed at pre-primary and primary level teachers in Finland and abroad. This 45 minute session will be packed with practical examples of games and activities that you can implement in your setting to help encourage language learning outside with children of all ages. Linking closely with the 'Ready, Steady, Play!' focus of learning through play based methods and the idea of cross-curricular learning, we will also give specific examples of resources within the EU project that you can use both in conjunction with the project's stories or as stand alone activities and ideas.

PROJECT PLENARY Free play. Multisensory. Hands-on. Stories. Make believe. You can experience all of this in a talk by three language teachers from Portugal, Finland and the Netherlands, based on our international Erasmus+ projects, "Playing Ever After" and "Ready, Steady, Play!", aimed at 4- to 8 year olds. In the projects, we encourage children to use English in free play in English Learning Areas (ELAs), using our own stories and a bank of cross- curricular activities. In this way English is integrated in different areas such as PE/movement, expressive arts, knowledge of the world/social sciences and music (a sort of ‘CLIL’ for the youngest learners). You will take away lots of creative, practical ideas that you can adapt to your own context, since stories, songs, plays and resources are free to use on Dropbox.
