Seven Kindergartens in Greece and Turkey collaborate and implement the eTwinning program "Schools Defenders of the Earth" utilizing the framework of 17 goals for sustainable development and wanting to raise awareness of children about climate change but also to mobilize them to become active citizens tomorrow!

Mission3 - all about water

The theme of World Water Day 2021, as defined by the United Nations, is "giving value to water". Water has a huge and multidimensional value for households, nutrition, culture, education, human economic activity and for the integrity of the natural environment - value beyond its price (Source: Ministry of Health)

The water project

Schools Defenders of the Earth

6th goal of sustainable development

Water is so important to every living thing on Earth. In this mission, students from partner schools discuss water and its importance. They wonder if everyone has access to it, because it becomes a daily waste. They get creative, express their ideas while proposing solutions that could convince people to save water

" Water is a precious commodity, I take care of it, I do not waste it"

When washing hands or taking a bath, turn off the tap

Drinking dirty water can make you sick

Water is precious we can all do something about it.

Water is good.

We must remember not to let the tap run

We want it to drink, to bathe, to water ...

We must not waste water because it can run out

Water is not clean everywhere, some people do not drink clean water.

when we leave the house the taps must be closed.

We can not live without water

Our body is full of water

Everyone needs water

It is important for us to live

We need water, but do not waste it

The children said........

Water precious good

They understood that a good we have is not a self-evident good that all people have. They expressed their thoughts while "they got into each other's shoes" and shared their thoughts.

heir concerns about access to water resources are intense.

They experimented with a variety of situations related to water wastage. The children of the partner schools suggested possible solutions that can help save water.

Wasting and saving water was a big investment.

04

They were concerned about water pollution, while showing strong interest in water scarcity. Concluding that water should not be wasted.

03

They investigated the reasons for inaccessibility both in Greece and abroad.

They wondered if all people had access to it.

02

They talked about the water cycle, about how water gets to our house. For the importance of water for both humans and every living organism.

The partner schools have been dealing with the issue of water for more than 4 weeks.

The water cycle

Water pollution

rom the sea and the rivers with the sun the water evaporates, that is, it becomes steam that rises to the sky. The clouds are created there and when it becomes a lot and gray, the rain is created. So when it rains the water falls back to the ground

02

ivers, lakes, seas, are polluted by the dirty water that runs from pipes, by the garbage that people throw away, by the evils that come out of the ships and because we swim in them, we will call the excavators and the bulldozers to take them out.

poem:Where are you from little river?

Students, inspirated by our engagement with WATER and the water recources which are vital for every living creature, illustrated the greek poem:"Where are you from,Little River",by Zacharias Papantoniou

With their parents’ help, they take the challenge and undertake experiments to carry out at home. They engage themselves with concepts like “Float-Sink”, "Melting and Freezing”, "Absorption", "Evaporation ","Solubility"

. They make assumptions and then they experiment using a variety of materials. After experimenting they answer to their initial inquiries. For example:- Does Water evaporate?- What can the water dissolve?- Hoe can Water freeze?- What happens when we boil water?

Experimentation and exploration

The Water Acrostic

Water in foreign languages and in Ancient Times

what is it?

What is it?

It puts fires out but you can’t catch it

I can’t catch it in my hands but it gets shaped in its container

It runs fast but it doesn't walk

what is it?

"Unique riddles ,made from the students"

what is it?

what is it?

what is it?

It is warm in summer and cold in winter. It is transparent liquid but when it freezes it becomes solid

It makes statues of ice and gets various shapes in various containers .

It is transparent and cool and when it gets cold it freezes. What is it?It comes from the sky dressed in white And when it warms up, it waters the whole Earth

Observing the Earth with children, we saw that a major part of our planet is covered by oceans and marine debris is found almost everywhere. Most of marine litter is generated by land-based human activities. There are five main currents in the oceans known as "whirlpools" or streams in the center of which travel garbagges that humans threw.

Garbage patches in the oceans

The children were concerned about the contamination of water resources, sought information, identified the difficulties that arise.

Utilizing floor robots, they created tracks, programmed the robots and gave them commands. But that was not enough. They were asked to read qr codes with the help of mobile devices trying to help Mr. Octopus to collect the garbage from the sea.

e participated in the European Code week with the action "Save the Oceans", "Save the sea".

Our Collaborative digital board game

Children's love for board games never stops! Our involvement with water resulted in a collaborative board game !!!

In the framework of our actions, various digital games were created in order for the children of the collaborating schools to learn through them.

The partner schools collaborated and created a digital book with suggestions on water saving ...

how can i save the water

The partner schools collaborated and created a story ... "The story of Blue

our collaborative story

They discussed with their classmates, exchanged thoughts with the partner schools and all worked together for a common purpose.

They joined their voices and created two small videos to spread the message :"Save the earth's water. If I can, then we'll all do it together..."

Through this learning journey, children wanted to communicate what they knew about water to both the younger and the older people.

Save the water of the earth If I can, then we'll all do it together...

The students of the collaborating schools, having an active participation, do their good deed for water and prove to us that you do not need to be big to save the earth. As long as you know the way! Admire the defenders of the earth !!!! Other "good deeds" follow
