10 reasons to learn Chess
From our first steps in chess, we must test our memory. To move the 32 pieces on the board, we must learn and remember the moves, captures, and special rules of the figures that will accompany us throughout the game. We soon realize that concentration plays a fundamental role, a carelessness, and we will be in trouble. Our eyes must be fixed on everything that happens on the board, and our attention must be greater than normal. It also reinforces reflective thinking because it is imperative to take into account the intentions of the opponent, and of course, we must plan and create ideas that surprise our opponent.
After the first move, there are 400 possible positions on a chessboard, for the second move, it increases to 197,742, and after three moves we have 121 million. In a complete game, the number is higher than the number of atoms in the universe, therefore, the chess player must make decisions between a wide range of possibilities, so ¿is it logical that the capacity for synthesis and organization should increase with practice?
Work in life without an objective is the equivalent of kicking in the air. If you don't have goals, you are adrift. In chess, the importance of working based on plans, objectives, and goals is primordial, the constant practice will impregnate in the chess player this model of thinking and will have a positive impact on the other aspects of his life.
The lack of reflection and making a hasty decision can cause a quick defeat. This teaches the chess player to make careful analysis before making an important choice and becomes more aware that mistakes have consequences.
There are moments during a chess game known as "critical situations" where it becomes evident that we are facing difficulty, and the decision we make will be decisive for the outcome of the game. At that moment, they are alone, and there is no mom, dad, coach, or anyone to make decisions for them. In this way, he/she will train the ability to manage problems and fight with tenacity to solve them. This is also an excellent way to combat overprotection and get the little ones at home to become more independent.
The drastic changes that can appear in a chess game help us to train the ability to react correctly to an unexpected situation. This will be important for life because we are not exempt from a radical change of circumstances that puts us in a difficult situation. A clear example is an impact on our life caused by the arrival of covid-19. The world situation has not been easy, and living with the new rules has been especially difficult for many. The chess player, on the other hand, has the ability to adapt and start a plan based on the reality that has presented, without turning back.
The chess player wants to improve constantly. After each game, he must analyze his mistakes to improve constantly. Likewise, he learns to recover from a defeat and to overcome the failure, the setbacks during a game will come at any time. Every chess player has experienced a defeat that he considers unfair or, on the contrary, he manages to win a game that seemed hopeless. Chess teaches us to respect the adversary at all times. It disciplines us to ethical behavior, understanding that the battle is on the board and not outside it.
To improve the game level in chess requires a lot of study and research, there is a lot of literature to train, as well as specialized software. In fact, it is known that chess contributes actively to the development of artificial intelligence and has made great steps in the world of computer science. Therefore, anyone who enters the world of chess will also discover its scientific side and see how vital it is to analyze every aspect of the game for its progress.
Chess also has an important artistic side that goes far away from the cultural exhibitions, paintings, and movies based on chess. In the game, the chess player discovers his artistic side in the beauty of a combination. He/she gets excited when playing a beautiful game considered a work of art. Finally, he/she develops vital qualities of an artist: creativity and imagination.
The sport forges the character and molds the personality, many people believe that chess does not deserve to be called sport because it does not "show" physical effort. This is far from reality, it has been proved with scientific studies that to have a good performance in chess, it is necessary to have a good physical condition and resistance to support arduous hours of struggle in front of the board. Likewise, its competitive side adapts the chess player to a world where healthy competition is present everywhere.
