The flora can self-regenerate and the vegetation on the ground is pretty dense did you notice that ? This rainforest is very precious because it houses a rich biodiversity which can provides us a lots of informations in the biology field. "

"The Moabi is a real giant vegetable of almost 70 meters high. This tree produces fruits once all 3 years and the first fruit is produced after approximately 70 years... This tree has a symbolic value for the pygmies. They use it as a gathering spot to discuss issues particularly during courts hearing and it's also a symbol of good luck. It's one of the most endangered species of the Atlantic coast of Africa. Its wood is really appreciated in the international market because it's used to make indoor and outdoor joinery but also wooden furnitures. Nowadays this three is protected and planted in special structures but corporations still cut it down illegally."

"This small to medium-sized tree up to 30m tall is mainly exploited for his bark. The bark is used for hut construction and also for matting, straps for carrying baskets, and caps. It yields a bright yellow dye used for dyeing cotton and fiber. Various traditional medicines are prepared from the bark as the decoctions allow to treat fever including malaria. It also helps with gastric or infection problems. Applied externally it helps to treat skin complaints and tiredness. Bark powder is applied on wounds, sores and skin ulcer. Luckily, this tree has no commercial value on the international market ; it's locally used for domestic products. In Cameroon it's classified amongst the promising timber species"

" The leopard orchid is one of the biggest African orchid. They look like a dustbin, surrounded by numerous yellow, fusiform, cane-shaped pseudobulbs. Those pseudobulbs catch the decaying leaves and the litter on which the plant feeds. These pseudobulbs can reach a gigantic size, up to 60 cm long. This robust orchid can become very bulky, sometimes with an estimated weight higher than a ton. This plant is used in traditional medicine and has aphrodisiac virtues. It's also an endangered specie"

" " This tree is exploited 8 years after the planting. The harvest is made after the fruit-forming and with precaution to prevent being armed by the hook and spine of the plant. The stem is cut into sections measuring from 5 to 10 cm then removed from their thorns and leaves for their conservation. The pith is used for fine basketry whereas the peripheral parts are used to make coarser objects. Here pygmies use Rattan palm to make fish traps and nets. But they can also make crossbows or baskets with it."

THE WHITE-COLLARED MANGABEY The collared mangabey has grey fur covering its body, but its common name refer to the colours on its head and neck. Its prominent chestnut-red cap gives it the name red-capped, and its white collar gives it the name collared and white-collared. The collared mangabey lives in large groups from 10 to 35 individuals including several males. Vocal communication in the form of cackles and barks are used to keep the group in contact and signal their position to other groups. It's listed as an endangered species in the IUCN Red List and suffers mainly from habitat loss and hunting for bushmeat.

THE DRILL It's one of the 6 most threatened primates of the planet. The last individuals live in Nigeria and Cameroon. It's one of the biggest monkeys of Africa, the male can weigh around 3 times the weight of the female. This monkey is threatened by the destruction of its natural habitat, intensive hunt and poaching.

THE WESTERN GORILLA Western gorillas live in groups that vary in size from 2 to 20 individuals. The interval between births is long, which partly explains the slow population growth rates that make the western gorilla so vulnerable to poaching. Due to the long gestation time, long period of parental care and infant mortality, a female gorilla will only give birth to an offspring that survives to maturity every 6 to 8 years. Gorillas are long-lived animals and may survive for as long as 40 years in the wild. The species is in critical danger of extinction and is threatened by habitat loss and degradation from agriculture, timber extraction, mining and climate change.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'VE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED ALL THE MISSIONS TO ESCAPE THE DJA RESERVE !

I hope that you realized the importance of this place. Indeed by being a primary forest, it has a big diversity of animals and plants which are for some of them endangered. This place belongs to the most important forest block of Africa to maintain biodiversity. So it's important to protect it and inform the population about the benefits it provides. You've been lucky to be here as this area is really preserved. I hope you left with many beautiful memories...
