Gymkhana for 4º E.S.O. students through All Motril

So, the activity mainly consisted in the following: There were 8 groups, and there were between 7-10 persons each group. The teachers had 8 different clues, and each team received one at the same time. The clues referred to important places in Motril during the Spanish Civil War, so the teams had to look for that place, and take a picture of it as the instructions said so (a selfie, a photo of the facade, a poster…)

Last Thursday, 10th of June, a very interesting and amusing activity for the students belonging to 4º E.S.O was carried out. This was collaboration between Jesús Rodríguez, History teacher, and Marta Medina, Physical Education Teacher, both from our center, Francisco Giner de los Ríos. The activity was a gymkhana (“photo-scavenger hunt”), which students had to test their History and Physical Education knowledge, as well as their orientation through the streets and their physical shape.

By Ángel Barbero 4ºA

+info

Also, some of the Physical Education questions the students had to answer to were for example: naming three typical games played during the Civil War in Motril, the most common injuries during P.E. class, or the types of injuries we can find. After some long hours, the team “Los Trigonométricos”, from 4º A, finished all the tasks in the first place. This wasn’t an easy challenge, but combining their P.E and History knowledge and their physical condition, they won the game! But of course, their team wasn’t the only one who achieved finishing they gymkhana in a very short period of time, as 1 minute later, the team on 2nd place arrived to the base point. The winner team received a History magazine about the Tropical Coast, an article about our Iglesia Mayor, written by Jesús himself, and each member of the team received a compass, for orienteering when needed.

hen, they had to return where they had started (Plaza de la Coronación), because before getting the next clue Jesús had to verify if they had done it correctly or not. If they had done it correctly, the team received a Physical Education question, and had to answer it in Google Classroom, and the clue for the following place.Between some of the places the students had to go to, we can find: The Local Cemetery (which was the furthest place), El Coliseo Viñas (in C/Nueva), La Alcoholera or the Iglesia Mayor.

OUR TRIP TO “LA CHARCA DE SUAREZ”

He explained us how big is the area of the Charca de Suarez and a little of the history this place. We were inside and we look a lot of posters describing the different birds that we can see there, even we could heard some of them.

Last friday, the 23th of April of 2021, we went to visit “La Charca de Suarez” in Motril. The teacher Antonio Prieto went with us this day. All the students of 2º ESO A are going to visit this place in different days due to the COVID. When we arrived a person who works there, told us what we were going to see.

Claudia Díaz Nievas

One storks couldn’t fly and there, people were taking care of it. And finally we also could see turtles and frogs. This was our experience, we learnt a lot of things about this beautiful place. The trip was amazing. We can´t wait for a new one. Claudia Díaz Nievas 2º ESO A1. IES FRANCISCO GINER DE LOS RÍOS de Motril Granada

We followed the monitor and we could see different plants. One was like velcro. We saw flowers like poppies, but not only red ones also pink ones. There was a weird plant, if animals eat one, they will be drunk. Then we went to some viewpoints and we could see little ponds where there were some ducks and other birds, like storks.

Last Wednesday, May 26, the first and second year ESO students visited Cerro del Toro. The buses left all the students at a point where they were organized and the “monitor” explained the rules.Soon after, they all started walking the trail for about half an hour. The road was of a medium-low intensity and we waited for the slower students so everyone had time to rest and recover when we took a break.Of course the best thing was the impressive views of Motril. Then all the students continued towards Cerro Gordo.Once there we had lunch and collected all the bags we used. After that we went to Cerro del Toro.At the Cerro del Toro plant, some students decided to leave and a bus picked them up.The rest went up the mountain.Overall the trip was very good and I think it was a varied and entertaining experience. Pablo and Martin worked together on this animation of a pair of tweezers. Here we find the effort between the pivot and the resistance.

El vira made a nice animation of a nutcracker fiinding the resistance between the effort and the pivot, so it is a simple machine of the same kind than the previous corkscrew.

Alejandro showed a corkscrew where the resistance is between the fulcrum and the effott. He added some sound effects to his animation.

Alberto animated a pair of scissors with the software Stop Motion Studio as a simple machine, identifying its elements. Notice that the pivot is between the effort and de resistance.

Did you know that it was proclaimed Patrimony of Cultural Interest in 1931? Cool, right? The fourth place we can visit freely is the Alhambra. If there is someone who still has not visited this amazing monument, the Patronato gives the possibility to granadinos and residents in the city, to contemplate its magnificence every Sunday.

Granada as we all know is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, if not the most. That is the reason why this article would be quite appropiate for all of those interested in visiting the city scot-free.Firstly, we will start in the old town with the Cathedral. People can visit this marvelous building every Sunday, making a booking in advance in the Granada archdiocese website. Then you can pick up the tickets in a book-shop near the cathedral called Cruz de Elvira.

Fundación Rodríguez Acosta

It is located in Federico Garcia Lorca's garden, near Camino de Ronda. It was the summer house of the family. There Federico wrote some of his poetry and lived before his detention. Federico was arrested by the falangists because he was accused of being a spy for the Russians. Also, because he was secretary of Fernando de los Ríos, a socialist politician, and last but not less important: for being homosexual. He was executed some days later. You can visit it for nothing every Wednesday.

The eighth place you can visit free of charge is Fundación Rodríguez Acosta, on Fridays and Sundays from 1pm till 2pm. Fundación Rodríguez Acosta is also a Carmen, whose owner was José María-Rodríguez Acosta, an incredible painter born in Granada. Here you can visit the building, his workshop and the gardens. The ninth place is Museo Casa de los Tiros. This building was part of the wall in the potter's quarter, that is why it looks like a military fortress. From the original, the only thing that remains is the tower. Currently, it holds a library and a newspaper archive. And finally, the tenth place you can visit pro-bono in Granada is Casa Museo de Federico García Lorca.

These houses are characteristically constituted by a garden, a kitchen garden and ponds, fountains or water channels. Most of them have views to the Alhambra and the rest of the city, thanks to their ubication, in the Albayzin quarter. Martir's Carmen is near the Alhambra and isfree to visit. Notes in Motril

Mention firstly that on Saturday 10th July 2021 the third edition of the Kiskilla Urban Festival (KUF) returns to the Motril bullring, an incredible experience that returns to the Costa Tropical after the cancellation of 2020 due to the coronavirus crisis. It is known that artists such as Farruko, Bryant Myers and Maka among others, but soon the confirmation of more artists for the best edition of the festival to date will begin. All of them from the reggaeton, urban and trap genre. This event will mean a great increase in tourism in our city and an increase in hotel bookings in the area as well as an increase in money for all citizens.Secondly, the Mayoress of Motril, Luisa María García Chamorro, has announced the celebration of "Motril en vivo", a series of concerts which

After a hard year like 2020 due to the global pandemic of Covid-19, we are all looking forward to return to a "normality" full of events, outings, socialising... Luckily in our city we have several musical events coming up that will increase tourism during these dates and give back the illusion to the citizens of having some contact and fun again.

Andrea Gómez Avilés 1º GAT

Green Valley, Pablo López and India Martínez, among others. Ticket prices range from 12€ to 35€. What do respondents have for breakfast? 27% chose ¨other¨/ 25% eats a slice of bread with any kind of accompaniment/ 23% has cereals for breakfast/ 9% has fruit/ 7% eats nothing/ and other 7% has any kind of dairy ( yogurt, cheese, etc… )Those who chose ¨other¨ referred to: cookies, fried eggs or pancakes.

After reviewing the results of the survey I sent you, I have come to the conclusion that not all is lost. 66% of respondents have breakfast every day/ 17% only when they have time/ and the vast minority once or twice a week, or outright never. Of the 5% of people who answered ¨never¨, 66% do not have breakfast because they do not have time/ 23% because breakfast causes them stomachache/ and 9% because they are on a diet. Regarding whether they had breakfast sitting, hurrying or on the walk, 69% responded that they had breakfast sitting correctly/ 20% had breakfast hurrying/ and 9% had breakfast whilst walking to school.

Investigating about our Breakfast

Cecilia E. Cabrera Manakovskaya 4ºESO C

This is due to the need of labours to eat in the morning, before going to work.Breakfast, like all meals, was a luxury. Not all citizens could afford it. To this day either. Still, today we have breakfast more often, with healthier food, and unhurried. Or at least it should be that way. What does a healthy breakfast contain? It is divided into a very simple four-point table. Carbohydrates: whole grain bread, fruit ( bananas, apples or oranges recommended ), or/and nuts.Proteins: boiled eggs, chicken breast, ham, almonds, cheese, tuna, samon or chickpea humus.Healthy fats: olive oil, avocado, butter, or milk.Fiber: lettuce or oat flakes. t.

Breakfast ( ¨breaking the fast at night¨ ). First meal of the day. The most important, because you eat after being hungry for hours at night. But, how much do you know about breakfast?Contrary to what is commonly believed, the Ancient Romans did not have breakfast. They just had lunch. And that remained until the Middle Ages. The absolutist monarchy ruled with heavy hand the feeding of the middle and lower classes. The reason they were not allowed to have breakfast was the ban on eating before morning Mass. In the nineteenth century we begin to talk about breakfast with certainty.

"I plan to participate in the Olympic Games, although there is still a lot to work” confessed the swimmer from Motril; being his motivation to keep training hard, keep going and never giving up.

In addition, when we refer him the confinement time, he confesses that during this period of time he missed the pool a lot, although he continued at home with his exercises to keep fit, without following any routine. Finally, the swimmer from Motril recommends swimming to all people since it is a complete sport since you move your whole body and it has many advantages in relation with heath.

Maxim, a body made for swiming

Today, we are going to interview Maxim, a thirteen-years-old athlete from Motril who began swimming at the age of three. He currently trains five days a week, an hour and half every day. He does not have a favourite style, for him they are all very good, although he prefers the crawl, in terms of styles, he is universal and stylist, being more of speed than long distance. Regarding competitions, his best race in the 100 crawl, 200 crawl and 200 styles, while his best achievement was to win the Spanish Championship in 200 free practices recently held in Barcelona. He is not satisfied with his position in the Spanish Championship, 200 crawl and 200 styles, since he has been in second place by twenty tenths. His next goal is to be first in all the races.

Today we are accompanied by a young athlete from our educational center, Giner de los Ríos. Her name is Carmen Maldonado, this July she will be 18 years old, and she has been playing basketball since she was 7-8 years old. She currently plays in the Granada team of Ramón y Cajal (Raca). I come to the institute, eat, study and leave ”.Basketball has given her many different moral values and experiences, more than once she has had to decide between having a normal adolescence or sacrificing a bit for training, which is why she feels that basketball has made her mature

between sleep hours and academic performance, but they found no remarkable one. According to their survey, sleeping long hours doesn’t translate into better academic results, although a high usage of smart phones could be linked to worse marks. I would like to remark that these results would need a more thorough attention and further research, but the end of this unusual year came and we had no time for more investigation. Some of the groups didn’t obtain as many answers as they would have liked, or only of a certain age frame, which gave them a probable bias in their conclusions. But in spite of all the limitations of this kind of research, I think it is very interesting to give you a taste of what our students can find out when they are interested in the subject. This is a proud teacher writing!

Here we offer a selection of the preliminary results that were rendered by the inquiry: - Some students focused on alcohol abuse and they found out that, as could be expected, students who claimed to be regular consumers during weekends had poorer results in general terms (the average mark was lower in this case). - Some students wondered if mental issues such as poor self-esteem, depression or even suicidal thoughts could influence the academic results, but their conclusion was that it didn’t. Apparently, students with a poor image of themselves or unhappy students could perform as good as happy students. - Another streaking outcome was obtained by the group that researched if video games could affect your school results. According to their survey, gamer students don’t do it worse than no gamers. - And finally, some students searched for a possible connection

HOW DO OUR STUDENTS COPE WHEN IT COMES TO HEALTHY HABITS?

to 3º ESO have set a research to find out whether healthy habits in teenagers are related to good performance in studies. We wondered if a good eight-hour sleep, for instance, or enough fruit and vegetables in their diet, or alcohol consumption, or too many hours checking on your smartphone or playing on line games… If any of these could affect the academic results, probably for the worst. Thanks to María del Mar, their Technologies teacher, they designed a questionnaire which could be accessed by a QR code, and they wandered around asking every available student to answer the questions on line. When they obtained enough answers, they analyzed the results in order to draw some conclusions.

The study of Biology and Geology in 3º ESO includes some knowledge about the human body, how it works (when it works), and how it doesn’t, when you mistreat it. Students have learned about healthy habits and the importance of looking after your own body to obtain the best from it, both physically and mentally. They also have learned how important it is to put into practice the scientific method, which has allowed us to know so many things about our world, including the manufacturing of these so expected vaccines that will help us move forward and forget the current pandemic. As part of their scientific training, groups of students belonging
