Welcome to the Greenland Ice Sheet, an area that holds the record for the lowest temperature in the Northern Hemisphere at -69.6 C. In this lesson you will learn about why ice floats and why this is so important for the survival of almost every organism on Earth. Click here for Checkpoint #2

Welcome to the Black Forest of Germany, where a river called the Danube flows through. This is the second largest river in Europe and was very important for the development of early European civilizations and continues to be extremely important for modern trade and economics. In this checkpoint, you will learn what gives a river like the Danube its shape as well as how water undergoes chemical and physical changes along the way. Click here for Checkpoint #3

Welcome to the Sahara Desert, the largest desert outside of the Arctic regions. Known for its massive dunes, the surface of the sand dune can reach 80 C and only the most extreme organisms can live in such arid (dry) environments. In this checkpoint you will learn how organisms adapt to life without water and what happens to the human body if given too little or too much water. Click here for Checkpoint #4
