Everything around us is made up of atoms and molecules. The terms are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same thing!

Water is made up of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom

Molecules made up of 2 or more elements are called compunds. E.G. Water

Molecules may be simple or complex

Composed of two or more atoms held together by a chemical bond

Smallest unit of a substance that has all the properties of that substance

Examples of common atoms are:

- Hydrgen

- Oxygen

Atoms are not usually found on their own

Can combine to form molecules

Made up of protons, neutrons and electrons

Basic unit of all matter - living and non-living
