(1896-1940) Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald (1896-1940) was one of the best American writers in the 20’s centuries. In fact, he was one the writers who captured the situation of the United States at that era.

(1896) He was born in Saint-Paul-Minnesota on September 24th, 1896. He had an alcoholic father and an intensively ambotious mother.

(1912) When he was 13 he published his first story in the school paper of an academy he attended.

(1917, World War I period) He abandoned Princenton University to join the U.S Army, and during that time, he worried he might died in battle, so he began to write his stories in his off-hours in the hopes of leaving behind a literary legacy.

(1920, The Roaring Twenties)

  • when finished serving, left the Army.
  • Moved to New York City and published "This Side of Paradise" (young man in Word War I) on march 26th, 1920
  • The beginning of his career, instant celebrity, economy growing and good life.

(1920)

  • Wedding, Zelda.
  • Refused to marry him before.
  • Enough money to support her.
  • On October 26, 1921, gave birth to Frances Scottie Firzegarld.

(1922)

  • Second novel “The Beautiful and the Damned” published in 1922 was badly flawed, it recounted an artist’s losing fight with dissipation.

(1924-1925)

  • Moved to France, spark his creativity.
  • A year later created his third work "The Great Gatsby" (Story about a gangster's pursuit of an unattainable rich girl.).

  • successful and a deteriorated life.
  • Wife's mental illness, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
  • Became an alcoholic and struggled with depression.

1931

  • They crept home in 1934 to an America in the grip of the Great Depression.

1934

  • Put his next work out "Tender is the Night" (story about a psychiatrist destroyed by his wealthy wife).
  • Considered a disappointment, lukewarm reviews and poor sales.

1937

  • Got less success in his career, even was being forgotten.
  • Hollywod, made a precarious living as a scriptwritter.

1940

  • Working as a screewriter, found energy to begin another novel.
  • The Last Tycoon (story of a complex gifted movie producer) unfinished.
  • He died due to a heart attack before finishing it.
