- Divides Hindus into two groups Varnas
- Renewed divison into hundreds of Jatis
- Hierarchical order is based on their Karma and Dharma
- The system is potrayed by the god Brahma
General information
- Also called the Untouchables or Paria
- In 1950, the rights of the Dalits were strengthened by the Indian constitution
- Nevertheless, discrimination, economic expliotation, persecution and violence are part of their everyday lives
