The work of art that I have chosen is "The Runaway" by Norman Rockwell. Before starting to work with the image I would ask my students about its title "The Runaway" - Have you ever felt you wanted to run away? when, why? - What were your feeling?- Did tell anyone? Did you trust anyone? Then, I would show my students the art of work. They have to decide if it is a photo o a painting, when it was painted, in which country and so on.Later, I would ask them to describe the scene: what they can see, the characters. And finally, we make up a story: - Why is the boy in the diner? Why is he alone? - Will the policeman make the boy return home? Will he feed the boy first? And will the boy eat again just as soon as he walks in the door at home? - Has his mother even realized that the boy had run away? Will he be punished by the police or by his mother? In the following slide I have written a possible story and now they have to use REPORTED SPEECH to complete the story. They will organise in pairs to write possible dialogues and then report them. This activity will take about 20 minutes and then they will read their stories to the rest of the groups. For homework, I would suggest reading this article: https://www.saturdayeveningpost.com/2014/06/the-rockwell-files-protect-and-serve/
On that morning, Jason was having breakfast like every morning. When he suddendly got a very strange feeling. His parents were not around for breakfast. First, he went into her parents´ bedroom to check if they were still aleep. But the room was empty. A little bit scared, he checked all the rooms but there was no one else but him. He started to panicking and got really frightened. He left in panic with his stuff and ran to the closest Police Station. Over there, Jason met a police officer and told him.......
The police officer tried to calm him down and took him to the nearest diner. The waiter wanted to know......
After a long conversation, the police officer brought Jason home and Jason´s parents started to ask their son questions......
