Bruno is a very active child and likes to play with his friends.
Bruno's family had to move to Auschwitz because of the father's job. He was a Hitler officer.
When Bruno arrived at the new house, he felt so bored being isolated and having no friends.
The father hired a tutor for Bruno and Gretel, so they could continue acquiring educational skills.
Bruno spent his time swinging on a swing he made from an old tyre.
In the house there was a backyard leading to the forest, a forbidden place for the child.
As we can see in the film, Bruno was a very curious boy and therefore, he was not going to keep calm without exploring the backyard.
Gradually, the friendship grew stronger until one day Bruno betrayed Shmuel. Shmuel was punished and smacked because of his friend. This marked a turning point in the boys' friendship. Shmuel didn't want to be Bruno's friend anymore, he was disappointed, hurt, sad and angry.
After a few days, Bruno got Shmuel's forgiveness. Both boys played, laughed, had fun, had a good time.
After a few days, to prove their friendship and to get Shmuel's forgiveness, once and for all, Bruno decided to help his friend in finding his father (who was probably dead). To do that, Bruno put on the prisioner's clothes and entered into the camp. They were unlucky because that day many Jews were executed . Shmuel and Bruno were taken to the shower/gas chamber with hundreds of other men. Bruno and Shmuel died, but they died next to each other and holding their hands.
Gretel's brother finally walked into the forest and stopped when he found a fence and a boy named Shmuel on the other side of it.
As Shmuel was in a concentration camp because he was Jewish, he was very hungry and as a good friend, Bruno brought him food every day.
