Alcornocal's Natural Park was declared on 28 July 1989. It consist of public and private land. And is governed by the Natural Resources Management Plan, in line with the European Habitats Directive. It also enjoys important protection figures: ZEPA, Natural Monument,Biosphere Reserve, ZEC, etc...

History

The Arcornocal's Natural Park has 173,619 hectares, divided between 13 municipalities in the Province of Cadiz and 1 in the Province of Málaga, in the South of the Iberian Peninsula.

Location

To this forest a singular flora is added from the tertiary era. Favored about the sreamy wind that cames from the coast, is formed forest of 'Laurasilva' composed of laurel,ojaranzo, durillos and acebos, over extensive ferns with more than 76 different classes and it only take place in one place

The main ecological value of this territory is the Alcornocal that houses, without forgetting other species of great interest that form forests with the last relics of subtropical vegetation that survive in the European continent, with exclusive species of ferns and mosses that grow in deep, narrow valleys called ''canutos''.

Privileged area of passage for migratory birds in the Strait of Gibraltar, is because it hosts more than 80 species of birds of prey, between eagles, vultures, kestrels and hawks. In the fluvial courses stand out the blackbird, the kingfisher and the sapper plane. The hunting fauna presents a uniqueness of the roe deer, the otter, the genet, badger, fox and meloncillo with more southern European division.

The main economic resource comes from the extraction of cork, also from hunting, gastronomy etc..Hiking, cycling or horseback riding, climbing are gaining more and more strength...as well as the Route of the White Villages that covers most of the municipalities in the area.
