+info

For our B. Mitzvah track students, we focus mainly on Hebrew prayerbook vocabulary, decoding, and reading skills in order for students to feel comfortable with communal prayer. We also teach some modern Hebrew slang and some basic vocabulary for both modern Hebrew and Jewish holidays.

How is Hebrew taught at CJE?

What kind of Hebrew does CJE teach? We focus mainly on the Hebrew decoding and reading skills in order for students to feel comfortable with communal prayer. We also teach some modern Hebrew slang and some basic vocabulary for both modern Hebrew and Jewish holidays.

Hebrew Through Movement (Total Physical Response) Beginning with our Pre-K class up through 2nd grade, children are introduced to the sounds of Hebrew in a playful and fun way. The method is based on the latest brain-based learning research and intentionally mimics the way a child naturally acquires language. There is lots of movement, lots of experience and surprise vocabulary to delight and pique interest. Rather than studying lists of vocabulary, kids are moving, jumping, spinning, pointing or some other action designed to link concepts, vocabulary, and engage their whole body in their learning.
