Bessemer process (Henry Bessemer)
Steel was very expensive before the Industrial Revolution and it took a very long time to produce. The Bessemer process, consists in melting pig iron in a furnace and taking away impurities by the oxidation with air, making a more resistant substance: the steel. It was invented by Henry Bessemer in 1847 and his British patents for a pneumatic steelmaking process in 1855 permitted to harshly reduce the price of steel because of the mass production of steel which ensued.

The Spinning Jenny (James Hargreaves)
The Spinning Jenny was invented by the British cotton weaver James Hargreaves in 1770. It permitted to create a new and a considerably faster way to weave yarn than the traditional spinning wheel. This invention first used eight spindles (rod for spinning the thread) to spin the thread on it, so by turning a single crank handle (wheel), the machine could now spin several threads at once. The Spinning Jenny in this way was used in textile mills creating job for workers and with an increase of the demand, it provoked the mercantilism and cash crops in British colonies.

The Steam engine (Thomas Newcomen)
The first commercial machine was developed in 1712 by Thomas Newcomen. It was a machine using steam power to perform mechanical work through the agency of heat. The steam engine was originally powered by wood, but due to a penury, the source of power changed into coal which was used to heat and boil the water. In 1765, James Watt brings many improvements to this invention. Its main use was in transport: the steam locomotive and the steamboat. Nevertheless, the use of this new technology brought serious environmental problems (pollution due to the carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere).

Dynamite
The dynamite is an explosive made of nitroglycerin, sorbents and stabilizers. Today, dynamite is mainly used in the mining, quarrying, construction, and demolition industries. Dynamite is still the product of choice for trenching applications.
Alfred Bernhard Nobel was a Swedish chemist, engineer and inventor who created the dynamite in 1867. The sales of the weapons made him whealthy, and bequeathed his fortunbe to the Nobel Prize institution.

THE END
In conclusion, the inventions in the Industrial Revolution were a pillar of the process because they were a source of development, and job creation, also they were used in all domains like in transports with the steam engine, or in the energy sector with inventions like the control and use of the electric power. Those inventions were also used in the telecommunications with for exemple the electric telegraph. Obviously, they were used a lot in manufacturing and inventions like the spinning jenny and mining with the help of the dynamite. Thanks, for playing our little game!
