Flamenco is a spanish typical dance and music specially from the south (Sevilla, Cádiz, Huelva and Jerez de la frontera). It's consider part of the andalusian culture. It's very known all around the world. It was consider part of the Unesco in 2010.

1. What is it?

It's said that Flamenco is a young music genre because it was formed around the 18th century (year 1770) in Sevilla even though their first clues where found before. People used go on parties where they danced and sing.

2. When was it made?

This music genre was formed thanks to the mix of many different cultures that lived in Spain back then, Andalusia's culture was influenced by the variety of civilisations that passed through the country for example: the "gitanos", judes, muslims, and so much more. That's why it has many charasteristic sounds from all around the world. At first flamenco was just singing but over the years it included dance and music.

3. How was it formed?

  • Spanish guitar. In flamenco music it's very commun to hear this type of guitar.
  • Expressing feelings. Flamenco tries to show feelings such as love, joy, sadness...
  • Improvision is very important for flamenco dancers.
  • voice, claps, spanish guitar, "cajón flamenco" and castanets are the main instruments in flamenco music
  • Flamenco is divided into "palos" that are different styles of singing. There are around 50 different styles. The first one created was fandango.
