What does the Files of the Indies represent?

The Files of Indias represents the ability of the Spanish Empire to trade.

What does it represent?

Built in 1585, the Palace housed the Consulate of the Merchants of Seville. Then, in 1785 it became the Archivo General de Indias, becoming the greatest collection of documents about the New World (America).

During the 16th and 17th centuries it was the capital of the Carrera de Indias (Gateway of the Indies), the Spanish trading monopoly in the Indies.

Conjunto Monumental

The Conjunto Monumental was a bunch of buildings in Seville, in which the General Files of the Indies were included. The architecture of it resembles a lot to the Renaissance, influenced with Baroque Andalusian and neoclassicism, creating a link between both the Old and the New Worlds.Side note: The building is preserved in its entirety, along with all the documents it contains.

The building reflects the role in the Spanish Golden Age through the trading power it had with the viceroyalties. This is however not the only manifestation of it in the city, as there are many other that can be associated with the one you're reading about, though the authenticity of this building is at a degree able to have its settings changed, thing that can isolate it from being related with other similar buildings.
