MERCURY It is the closest planet in the solar system to the Sun and the smallest. It hasn't atmosphere. It has grey colour.

VENUS It is the second planet in the solar system in order of distance from the Sun, the sixth in terms of size, ordered from largest to smallest. It's the hottest planets and it hasn't got any moon.

THE EARTH It is the third planet from the Sun and the only one that has life. Earth is the planet on which we live. The Earth only has one moon

MARS It is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second smallest in the Solar System after Mercury. It has a red colour. Mars has got two moons

JUPITER It is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet in the Solar System. It is a gas giant and has fifty-three moons.

SATURN It is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest in the Solar System, after Jupiter. It is a gas giant. It has a ring system.

URANUS It is the seventh planet from the Sun. It has a light blue colour and is the planet with the coldest temperature

NEPTUNE It is the eighth and farthest known planet from the Sun in the Solar System. It is blue in colour and has six faintly rings.

FULL MOON The full moon is the lunar phase when the Moon appears fully illuminated from the Earth's perspective.

WANING MOON When the Moon is waning, it will have less and less illumination each night until it is a New Moon.

NEW MOON The new moon is the first lunar phase. In this phase, the lunar disc is not visible to the naked eye.

CRESCENT MOON During the first half of a lunar month, when the amount of illumination on the Moon is increasing, astronomers call this a "crescent moon".

Phases of the moon Moon phases are the apparent changes in the visible illuminated portion of the moon due to its change in position relative to the Earth and the Sun.
