Old Port

Monument to Colón

The Columbus Monument is a sculptural group located in the Portal de la Paz square in Barcelona, in the Ciutat Vella district. Built in homage to the discoverer Christopher Columbus, it is erected at the junction between the Ramblas and the Paseo de Colón, in front of the old port of Barcelona. The author of the project was the architect Cayetano Buigas. Inaugurated on June 1, 1888, in full exhibition, it immediately became one of the most characteristic icons of the city.

At the top of Passeig Lluís Companys, the Arc de Triomphe stands out proudly. Entrance door to the Universal Exhibition of 1888, the arch presided over the then Sant Joan Hall, the walk that led to the fairgrounds of the Parque de la Ciutadella. The architect Josep Vilaseca conceived a work of character and classical proportions as an allegory of Barcelona's respect for the nations and provinces participating in the Exhibition This portal makes us understand that the Arc de Triomphe was the gateway to modernity in Barcelona at the end of the 19th century. On the one hand, the frieze facing the Paseo de Sant Joan represented Barcelona welcoming the nations. On the other, you can see how the city gives the awards to the participants of the Exhibition. The lateral reliefs symbolize Agriculture and Industry on one side and Commerce and Art.

Arch of Triumph

It is a church located on the Tibidabo mountain in Barcelona, the work of the architect Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia and completed by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal. It is in a historicist style that combines neo-Byzantine, neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic elements. [1] Its construction lasted from 1902 to 1961. It belongs to the archpriesthood of Sarrià
