Problem Statement
Project Background
- When FOG's enter the drainage system, they mix with food and other sanitary waste, congeal and harden in the pipe.
- FOG-related blockages can result in sewer overflows due to reduced capacity or burst drain and sewer pipes.
- To solve this problem, we are designing a smart grease filtering system.
- The purpose of designing the system is to trap and filter FOG from running to the drain or sewer pipes.
- FOG can severely damage your sewer system
- FOG includes animal and vegetable fats, as well as oils used to cook and prepare food.
- Grease buildup in pipes can cause significant damage and a grease trap can help reduce the number of FOG's.
- A grease trap is a plumbing device designed to intercept most greases and solids before they enter the disposal system.
.01
Introduction
- This project involves building a smart grease filtering system. The filtering system will reduce the oil content in greywater.
- The filtering system will be located at the kitchen sink drain of a restaurant.
- To trap fat, oil, and grease from the kitchen sink drain flushed down to the drain or sewer pipes.
Project scopes
Objectives
- To design, simulate and analyze a smart grease filtering system.
- To prevent clogging of waste lines with grease.
- To facilitate the reclaiming of grease because of its economic value.
.01
Introduction (cont. )
Grease traps work because animal fats and vegetable oils are 10 to 15 percent less dense than water. Solids settle at the bottom, and the separated clear water escapes under an outlet baffle. Over time, grease will build-up, all of the remaining greases will be filtered producing clearer greywater.
Operation of Grease Trap
TYPES OF GREASE TRAP
Introduction
- The literature review is on the concept of the overall design for the Smart Grease Filtering System.
- This machine's function is to collect and therefore minimize the number of fats, oils, and greases (FOG) entering the main sewers.
- They are designed to have kitchen wastewater flowing through them and should never have wastewater from other drainage system sources such as toilets.
- The original technology, which is also part of it, will be improved.

- We expect that the Food, Oil, and Grease content in the sewer will decrease with our smart grease filtering system being invented.
- We also expect that almost all restaurants throughout the country will be using the smart grease filtering system.
- Then, by utilizing the smart grease filtering system, there will be a lot of improvement in the sewer system.
