STRAWBERRY

We can find in the vegetable garden a lot of different species of plants and even insects! The pupils have made lasagna gardening, which are successively layered mounds of various organic materials (dead leaves, twigs, fresh grass) that improve the quality of the soil for gardening (natural fertilisers).

Discover the pond's Biodiversity

As a place with higher humidity and lower temperatures, the pond contributes to the perservation of areas and species threatened by urbanisation. It is a much needed safe haven for fauna and flora.

Butterfly tree (Buddleja davidii) :

Wingspan :Between 2 and 6m

Size : 0,5 to 5 m

Environment : Chinese mountains

Fun fact : In Chinese, it’s named zuiyucao 醉鱼草 (“plant intoxicating fishes”).

Nénuphar / Water lily (Nymphaea) :

Water lily : Partially emergent floating aquatic plant.

Size : 10 à 15 cm above water

Environment : Big and stilll bodies of water because water lilies expand quickly ; mainly

Europe and North America

Advantage :Cannot resist to high pollution of acidity levels.

Disadvantage :Needs a lot of sunlight.

Goldfish (Carassius auratus) :

The goldfish is a freshwater fish.

Size : 10-35 cm

Environment : Cold water (10°-22°C)

Fun fact : Goldfish have a three-month memory.

Koi Carp (Cyprinus carpio carpio Linnaeus) :

Size : 50-120 cm

Lifespan : between 18 and 20 years (The record of longevity is 70 years)

Environment : come from Japan

Diet : omnivorous

Microorganism (μικρός, « little» et de ὀργανισμός,« organism ») :

Size : from 50 µm to 0,5 µm

There are many species of microorganisms.

Environment :Each species of microorganism is found in one specific type of habitat but microorganisms can be found (almost) anywhere on Earth.

Fun fact : Microorganisms are often describedas single-celled organisms ; some single-celled microorganisms are visible and some multicellular ones are microscopic.

Elodea:

Size : Stems can measure up to 3 to 4m and leaves only 2cm.

Environment : Fully submerged aquatic plant.

Fun fact : Each plant is both male and female , yes, even plants

are LGBTQIA+ !

Agrion (Coenagrion puellae) :

Size : 2.5 cm

Wingspan : 5 cm

Environment :Near still bodies of water.

Diet : Carnivorous

Fun fact : During mating, the male and female cling together and form a

heartshape.

In 2018, Green’Evariste wanted to create a new space of biodiversity. The idea of the pond was born...

With the help of an association -Aventure Nomade- we began to make plans and dug two holes in the ground.

Because the soil was made of clay, we tried to make a natural pond (with no human material, clay being waterproof), but it didn’t work. To make sure the ponds wouldn’t dry out, we put tarpaulin on the bottom of the ponds.

To prepare for the inauguration, which took place on Water Day, fish were put in the ponds : six goldfish and two beautiful koï carps.

Finally, in order to protect biodiversity and attract butterflies, dragonflies and other insects, we planted buddlejas, laurels, irises and reeds.
