He was born in Gökçeyaka village of Çameli district in 1933. He worked as a shepherd for a while in the poor mountain village. Hayri Dev, who never went to school, learned how to read and write from a friend who went to school. He started to learn and sing the 3-string instrument called Cura in childhood. He became a master who played and sang nine-eight local tunes called Masıt Kırığı. Hayri Dev, who has 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls, never let go of his three-stringed reed and pine whistle, unaware of his family. He went to houses, worked as a companion, entertained people at weddings. He played for the shepherds in the forest, in the mountains, he said.

Saz master Hayri Dev passed away at the age of 85. The funeral of Hayri Dev, the father of 5 children, will be buried in Gökçeyaka District following the afternoon prayer. Hayri Dev, whose life and art was the subject of documentaries, was selected as "The Living Human Treasure Cultural Heritage Carrier" by UNESCO.

Hayri Dev, 85-year-old saz master, died in the hospital where he was treated. Hayri Dev, who was operated on yesterday due to a fracture in his backbone and was in the neurosurgery ward, died in the morning. Hayri Dev was chosen as the "Living Human Treasure Cultural Heritage Carrier" 10 years ago.

Hayri Dev who performed in Turkey and abroad, he claimed as “Living Human Treasure” by Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a part of UNESCO İntergovernmental Committee For the Safeguarding of İntangible Cultural Heritage in 2008.

At this point of his life he also learned to play “cura” ,an intrument which has three strings” and singing. Three string baglama ,which is made by people who live around Çameli and Gireniz with cade, is an exclusive instrument for that area. With this instrument Hayri Dev, started playing local 9/8 melodies called “Masıt Kırığı” which is named by the old name of Gökçekaya Village and he also gain proffesion for making pine whistles. Whistles are generally has 65cm length and they have frets that 5 in front side and 1 in back side. They made in spring when trees start to regreen by thin pine branches.

Living human treasure Hayri Dev, who learned to play the three-stringed instrument (cura) with the advice of his grandfather when he was 15 years old, memorized the folk songs he sang by listening to the lovers in the region. In 1992, a life-changing event happened. French Jerome Cler, he heard the sound of a binding spell came to Turkey seized in Spain. While trying to find the source of this sound for a long time in the mountains of Çameli and Fethiye at an altitude of 1500 meters, he prepared a 350-page thesis on the culture of the region. It was with this thesis that he got associate professorship from the Department of Etymology of Sorbonne University. Clar, he came to Turkey and found the Hayri Dev. The voice he listened to was from the three-stringed instrument in the giant's hand. Later, a French team of 15 came back to the village. The life of the Giant was narrated in the documentary "Behind the Forests". French musicologists called 3 times to have their countries give concerts. In fact, a French came to Çameli every year to learn from Dev and made documentary shots. The triple cura and pine whistle blew in the group of 10 people formed by Çameli Public Education Center. He was included in this group as a guest of the 2007 İzmir District National Education Directorate at the Folk Dance feasts organized by the Ministry of Culture in Ankara in 2004 and in Istanbul in 2005. He gave concerts as a local artist at the festivals held in Çameli. Hayri Dev gave lectures to the teachers of Denizli Municipality Conservatory about his music for a while. The local people gave the name "Koca Master" to Dev, who also gave lectures to university students in Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Conservatory for a while.
