UNIT 4: THE HUMAN BODY

  • What systems do we find inside the human body?
  • What is the function of each system?
  • Can you name 3 parts of each system?

Before starting the unit...Are you able to answer these questions?Let's think about them!!!

Function:The circulatory system distributes nutrients and oxygen to the different parts of the body and gets rid (se deshace)of unwanted substances.

1. The circulatory system

4.Veins: They carry blood from the body to the heart.

3.Arteries:They carry blood from the heart to the body.

2. Blood vessels: They transport the blood around the body. There are 3 types: veins, arteries and capillaries.

1. Heart: It pumps(bombea) blood around the body.

What are the parts of the circulatory system?

6. Blood : It is a red liquid that has the nutrients and oxygen our body needs. It also transports the waste substances that our body needs to remove.

5. Capillaries: They connect the arteries and veins.

The heart contracts and relaxes. The continuous contracting and relaxing of the heart is called heartbeat(latido).

How does the heart work?

When the heart contracts it pushes blood through the arteries to the rest of the body.

When the heart relaxes it fills with blood coming from the veins.

Let's practice!!

Function:The respiratory system distributes/gives oxygen to all parts of the body.

2. The respiratory system

3.Larynx: It contains the vocal cords.

2.Pharynx: Allows the air to go from the mouth and nose to the lungs.

1. Nasal cavity/Nose: Moisters and filters the air that comes to the body.

Parts of the respiratory system.

5. Bronchi: They are tubes that connect the trachea to the lungs.

6. Bronchioles: They connect the bronchi to the alveoli(air sacs)

4. Trachea/Windpipe: It is a rigid tube which carries air to the bronchi

7.Diaphragm: It's a muscle that helps the lungs to move in a way neccesary for breathing.

7.Lungs: They are spongy organs which contains millions of tiny air sacs called alveoli. In the alveoli the air exchange takes place.

Let's review all the parts with this video

Exhalation:The diaphraghm relaxes and pushes carbon dioxide out of the body.

Gas exchange:The oxygen passes to the blood and the carbon dioxide passes from the blood to the lungs.

Inhalation:The diaphraghm contracts and the lungs get bigger and fill with air with oxygen.

Respiration-STAGES

Let's practice!!

Function:Human beings are able to make other human beings thanks to the reproductive system.

3. The reproductive system

Female reproductive system

Male reproductive system

Umbilical cordIt's connected to the mother. This is how the baby receives oxygen and food.

Amniotic sacIt's a bag wherethe baby grows

PREGNANCY: It's when a baby forms and grows inside the mother. It lasts 9 months.During pregnancy the body develops:

Pregnancy and childbirth

GIVING BIRTH: It is when the foetus is completly developed, the amniotic sac breaks and the uterus contracts to push the baby out through the vagina.
