We've always been curious about world war 2 stories and Auschwitz, so we chose to talk about this topic. In August 2018, Luisa traveled to Amsterdam with her parents and passed next to the Anne Frank, House Museum, one of the most visited in the city where you can visit the recreation of the Anne Frank bedroom environments, her father's warehouse and the hideout where they spent the two years.

Introduction

Anne Frank, whose full name was Annelies Marie Frank. She was 13 years old and received a diary as a gift, so she realized that this gift was special and that she would be her real friend giving her the name "Kitty". Anne Frank lived with her parents and sister Margot. When the Nazis took power they aimed to eliminate the Jews because for them they were the root of all evils. Believing that holland was safer, in 1933 Anne and her family moved and her father went to run a jam factory. At first living there seemed like paradise, but soon the Nazis invaded Holland and turned their lives into hell. Anne's father planned their escape giving the idea that they had rushed to Switzerland, but what really happened was that they hid in an office, behind a bookcase, where there was a ladder that gave secret access to an annex that was a complete house.

Resum of the action

Anne knew that together with her family she was going to live the Van Daan family and her son Peter. Anne was reporting everything to her "friend Kitty" and one of the things that annoyed her most was the comparison they made between her and her sister Margot. Their life in the annex had the shifts changed, during the morning while the workers were busy in the factory had to keep quiet and took advantage to study different languages, at noon, everyone went to lunch and it was Bep and Miep who took them food, in the afternoon the workers went home and began the routine in the hideout. The night, in Anne's mind, was full of evil thoughts. Anne's father informed them that they were going to receive Mr. Dussel, Miep's dentist, in his annex. Six months later, living in the annex, Anne confesses to "Kitty" that she is dying of anger at her mother because of the unpleasant words and accusations she makes her daily. All she could do was cry, scream, knock and run away from everything.

Resum of the action

After a year, of being in the annex, their belongings were very worn and nothing was washed. All her accomplices were sick and were left without anyone to bring them food or any news, Anne was increasingly depressed and terrified of everything that was happening, increasingly distant from her mother and sister, her father was the one who supported her the most.Anne needed someone to talk, so she went to find Peter and every morning when she woke up was going talk to him at the attic and talked a lot, Anne started to feel interested in him. Outside everything got worse, many people dying, food running out and in the annex began to feel lack of food, Peter went to the warehouse and came across thieves and then, as they feared, the police appeared and searched the whole building, the fear hit their hearts. The last letter Anne wrote to "her friend Kitty" was on August 1, 1944, and three days later, after a tip-off, german police discovered the safe house and all were arrested and deported. Anne and her sister Margot were separated from their families and sent to Auschwitz. They both end up dying.

In our opinion this book tries to tell us the tragic story of a teenager, through comics and in a subtle way, making us understand how difficult it was to live in those conditions, how she felt and what she did for fun, because she lived isolated from the world only with the presence of her family and some friends. Anne lived hidden in a secret annex for two years, so as not to be killed by the Nazis, deprived of playing, learning and contacting the world to which she was entitled. Anne was looking in her diary for a friend she could talk to, breather, counsel and feel understood and accompanied, as she says in the paragraph "Dear Kitty, I hope I can trust you with everything, as I could never trust anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort." (p.11) In our view, there were very difficult moments that no human being should have lived, we are all entitled to our freedom and no one can deprive us of it.

Critical appreciation

Our favorite character is Anne Frank, because even being, a girl at a young age was very brave and presuptive, always trying to find ways to deal with the problems that were emerging in the midst of the chaos that was experienced in her country and with the situations that both hurt her, as was the case with the attitudes of her mother and sister. Anne never gave up, even when her will was that and it made her a hero despite having had such a short life left a story to tell.

Favorite Character

As I read the book, these two images emerged that are related to the works "THE SCREAM" by Edward Munch and "ADELE LOCCH-BUAER I" by Gustav Klimt. The relation that exists between the work "THE SCREAM" and the reinterpretation of this image is related to loneliness, anxiety, fear and revolt represented by the two, because Anne Frank felt desperate because all the habitants of the annex judged her and told her what to do, say or be. The second image relates to Gustav Klimt's work and the reinterpretation adapted to Anne Frank characterized as the perfection that everyone wanted her to be, just as Gustav Klimt wanted to pass on the image of that woman.
