Ramadan Table in Turkey
Basic guide to create an awesome presentation
Muslims fast 30 days during the Ramadan Month. They eat just before the sunrise and not eat or drink anything, even water until the evening. It is almost 16 hours depending on the time of the year. The meal that they break their fast is called ‘iftar’. Iftar tables are very important for them, they host as many guests as they can during this period. Charities and municipalities cook and serve meals to hundreds and thousaands of people in the streets, too. In fact this is the time of the year that is a sign of sharing your food and table with your friends, family members and relatives, even with the people you don’t know.
IFTAR TABLE
Basic guide to create an awesome presentation
People prefer breaking their fast with a glass of water, dates or olives. In Turkey we have two specific food that are only produced and consumed during Ramadan. One of them is Pide, a type of flat bread with sesame seeds and black cumin on top. People wait in the long queues to buy freshly baked pide in front of the bakeries just before the iftar. The other one is Güllaç, which is a kind of dessert made of starch phyllos and rose water. The phyllos are only sold in the markets during this time of the year. Luckily Ece’s family had some at home from the Ramadan, thanks to them we could include the recipe in our presentation.
