Heinrich Schliemann's desk

Thanksgiving to Germans for tangible cultural heritage The furniture of Heinrich schliemann's office has multiple values, because on the one hand they are a rare example of Greek tangible cultural heritage from the late 19th century and on the other hand they are associated with two important personalities: designed by the architect Ernesto Ziller on behalf of the archaeologist Eric Schliemann for his residence in Athens, the "Ilion Melathron". Their motifs (winged cryols, anthems, ram heads, lion legs, Athenian glaucus, satyr heads) refer to the revival of antiquity through the spirit of neoclassicism. http://www.katsigrasmuseum.gr/%CE%AD%CF%80%CE%B9%CF%80%CE%BB%CE%B1-%CF%83%CE%BB%CE%AE%CE%BC%CE%B1%CE%BD/

Heinrich Schliemann (German: [ˈʃliːman]; 6 January 1822 – 26 December 1890) was a German businessman and pioneer in the field of archaeology. He was an advocate of the historicity of places mentioned in the works of Homer and an archaeological excavator of Hisarlik, now presumed to be the site of Troy, along with the Mycenaean sites Mycenae and Tiryns. His work lent weight to the idea that Homer's Iliad reflects historical events https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Schliemann Heinrich Schliemann - WikipediaHeinrich Schliemann ( German: ; 6 January 1822 - 26 December 1890) was a German businessman and pioneer in the field of archaeology. In 1955, doctor Georgios Katsigras bought the furniture in Athens, from an antique dealer, Stathis Kyrloglou. It is even said that Schliemann furniture attracted the interest of various buyers, including Queen Frederick. After their purchase by Georgios Katsigras, they were first transferred to his office at the clinic and then to his doctor's office.
