What are the Library Resources?
The State Library of NSWDatabasesThe State Library of New South Wales is a large reference and research library open to the public. It has amazing eResources to offer with a Free membership. Steps for membership
- Visit https://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/research-and-collections/get-library-card/sign-library-card
- Fill in your details and the card will be delivered for you.
- Visit https://eresources.sl.nsw.gov.au/
- Search by Database title or subject.
- Sign in using your library card number.
- Search the database.
ReferencingReferencing refers to the acknowledgment of the resources that you have used in your assessments. This will usually take the form of a list at the end of your work and will include detailed information about any material that you’ve mentioned, including (but not limited to) books, articles, films, websites, papers, blogs, and fact sheets. You will need to Reference if: 1) You have inserted a table, used statistics, a diagram, photos, or other copied images within your work. 2) If you discuss another person's theory, practice, or idea. 3) When you use someone else's work or theory as an example to support your argument. 4) You have used a direct quote from another author. 5) You paraphrase other authors' words or ideas. Research Consultations Book a Research Consultation! Consultations are offered to AFTRS students for questions that cannot be answered within a short time frame.AFTRS Librarians will:
- Discuss a research question.
- Guide on the most appropriate books, DVDs, electronic resources, and other information sources for you to do your own research for your assignments and productions.
- Provide information skills training to find and manage information retrieval.
- Provide training in the use of bibliographic management software, such as Zotero.
- Work with teachers to support teaching, production, and research activities.

Physical itemsAs a student you will have access to: eBookseBooks are the same as your physical books but online. You can search for eBooks using our catalogue ‘search bar’ or searching an eBook database. Journal ArticlesJournal articles are short articles about specific topics, written by experts for experts and researchers in the field. Find Journal Articles by searching the Databases page of the website. DatabasesA library database holds a collection of resources to help you complete your studies. These hold a collection of information, either focused on one subject or multidisciplinary. Databases should be used to find authoritative journal articles for your assignments. They can include:

- Newspapers,
- Magazines,
- Reports,
- Newsletters and more
How to Access the Library Resources To access these resources follow the instructions below. eBook DatabasesSearch for eBooks within the databases. Choose a database from the eBooks page of the website. Steps
- Select the Database from the selection.
- Log in using your Moodle details.
- Search for your eBook.
- Check if the eBook is available.
- Click the book symbol to read online.
- Select the Database you want to search.
- Tick the ‘Peer-reviewed box’ to retrieve only those results.
- Put your keywords into the search bar and Search.
- Select ‘Full text - PDF’ to read the article.
- Journals,
- Newspapers,
- Magazines,
- Reports,
- Newsletters and more
- Go to the Databases page from the website.
- Choose which database you want to search.
- Log in using your Moodle login details.
- Search for your Journal Articles, reports, etc.
- Go to the catalogue.
- Search keywords in the search bar.
- Find your resource.
- Select ‘Place Hold’.
- Log in with your entire ‘Student barcode’.
- You will receive an email notification when your ‘Hold’ is ready to collect.

- Break down your question into keywords.
- Use Boolean Operators
- Use Limiters to refine your search results’
