The Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and largest national park in the Republic of Croatia. On April 8, 1949, it was proclaimed the first national park in Croatia. The Plitvice Lakes consists of 16 interconnected lakes. They are surrounded by lush forests and numerous waterfalls. This park is the most visited park in Croatia. Gornja Stubica is a beautiful place located in Hrvatsko Zagorje and is part of Krapina-Zagorje county. It has about six thousand inhabitants. It is known for the large monument dedicated to Matije Gubec and its linden tree located next to the church of St.George. It s also known for the castle of Oršić and Rudolf Perešin – a war pilot killed in our Homeland war.

Zemunik Donji is a small town where Zadar airport is situated. Why is it so special? Well, because it is the only airport in the world where runway cuts the main car traffic road, and when a plane is landing, all cars have to stop and let the plane go first! Štrukli is one of traditional Croatian dish, especially in our area – Hrvatsko zagorje. The pastry is made of water, oil and flour and the filling is made of cow’s cheese. Croatia is a beautiful country with many islands and nature, but what else do you know about Croatia? Well, if you look at the map of Croatia, you will see that it has the shape of a dragon! Then there is our flag. Why do we have squares there? Well, in the past (19th century), the Croatian king Držislav was captured by the Venetians and he played a chess match in which his opponent was Doge Peter II. Orseolo. King Držislav won all three matches and thus gained his freedom. Then he decided to place a chessboard in his coat of arms.

Gemišt is traditional drink in our area- Hrvatsko zagorje. It is a mixture of mineral water and white wine. In Zagorje the best prepared gemišt is half of wine and half of mineral water. It’s drunk in all kind of occasions – from weddings to everyday lunches. Lovro R.

Sinj - city in Croatia is famous for Sinjska alka. Sinjska alka is an old knights’ game established in the 18th century. It celebrates the victory of Croatians over the Ottomans and it is held every year in August. There is also one of the biggest Mary’s shrines in Croatia, the Shrine of Our Lady of Sinj. Varaždin is a city located along the banks of the Drava River. It's biggest attracton is the city museum. It is famous for Varaždin baroque evenings festival. It also has the most famous cemetery in Europe. It was the capital of Croatia from 1767 to 1776 when a fire broke out and destroyed the city. Mihael J.

Roast turkey with „mlinci“ is a famous dish in Hrvatsko zagorje, our homeplace. It is the finest when the turkey is home-grown from Zagorje It is served with mlinci (homemade dried pasta)- the best when baked at home on a wooden stove. it is traditional dish for Christmas lunch. Mihael J.

The school is 157 years old. Matija Gubec is a Croatian national hero who was the leader of Peasant revolt in the 16th century. Our school is not big, there are less than 400 students. But we do a lot of extra things like weather calculations and data. Our school was the first in Croatia that was sending weather data to GLOBE base centre in the USA. There is also a School Cooperative with agricultural, photo, flower, art section and many more. Besides regular classes, you can also do many after-school activities like PC course, football training or music school. Michael D.
