Do you know the real story of the real story of the first thanksgiving ?

Firstly, there are a lot of steretoypes about the Natives and Piligrims. Those stereotypes are perpetuated especially by Hollywood.

Natives are represented as savage who are primitives and naives.

The verity is that they knew that the settlers could be dangerous for them. However, their religion learnt thaht they had to be kind and give hospitality to anyone . Sometimes they had to act differently when they're in danger.

Piligrims are represented as people who believe in God : "The pilgrims Fathers". Who came guided by God, allowing them to take the lands of the Natives belongs to them.

The reality is that the most of people who came in America were criminals, outlaws rather than people who came to educate and civilize the Natives.

There is differents myths of Thanksgiving.

The first Myth

One day, the Native Americans brought food to the settlers. So, Pilgrim Fathers came up with the idea of bringing food to the Native for thanking them and to celebrate the crops. It would be the first thanksgiving

The second Myth :

The second myth is that Thanksgiving ceremonies existed long before the arrival of the settlers. The Natives did it to celebrate the crops. So the Pilgrims Fathers didn’t invent it.

The third Myth

The third myth is that Settler celebrated Thanksgiving to thank God for having protected them of the diseases and the Natives who were described as the savages enemies

An another myth

This myth is that the first Thanksgiving was celebrate by the settlers to thank the safe return of the people who went to Mystic, Connecticut and participated in the massacre of the Pequot, a Native tribe.

But with all of those myths, how can we know what is the real story of the first Thanksgiving? Additionally, the USA perpetrates a mix of all those myths and learns it at school, they do that to bound the nation and create a unity in this society which has different ethnicities.

Here is : On the first Thanksgiving the Wampanoag tribe was invited in order to negotiate a treaty and sell lands to the settlers. That’s why the Natives call thanksgiving thankstaking.
